XFX users are in luck - check this out if you were one of the GTX260 or GTX280 early adopters.

Sudden changes in the market have caused the price for the XFX GeForce GTX 280 and the XFX GeForce GTX 260 to drop. As a result, we want to thank you for your continued loyalty and for believing in the XFX brand. And, to show our commitment to you, <<<<<<we are issuing up to $120 CASH BACK to customers who purchased one of these cards between June 16, 2008 and July 11, 2008. The actual amount of cash back will be determined based on the model purchased, as well as the date and price of the purchase.

EVGA has an offer now too.

If you purchased an EVGA GTX 280 or an EVGA GTX 260 between the dates of June 16th and July 7th, then you have qualified to receive up to $150.00 in EVGA Bucks* or $125.00 Cash Back**!

BFG is getting in on the cashback action too.
Due to recent price drops in the market on the GeForce GTX series graphics cards, BFG is offering customers who purchased and registered a BFG GTX 280 or 260 graphics card between June 16 and July 16 2008 up to $120 based on the model and price paid.

Also, for qualified customers, BFG will offer $50 off the purchase of a second GTX 200 series card of the same model you already have to help complete your SLI system.

Very interesting. I wonder if this applies to those of us who got the MS cashback discount. My receipt still shows the $660 price on it.

Kudos to EVGA too - just found a similar offer on their site. I took a quick look at BFG, PNY, and Palit - no cashback offers from them yet.

That's amazing. EVGA and XFX are willing to eat a loss on sales they already completed and both parties agreed to. They are willing to pay out of their pocket for Nvidia's poor product launch and planning? Impressive to say the least. Actions like this wins loyal customers like me for life.

I put my information in there. It's worth a shot, especially since I have already registered my card.

Wow, pretty awesome. I was happy with the price I paid but this makes it pretty insane. Just further reinforcement for why its worth it to pay a premium for the domestic board partners like EVGA, XFX, and hopefully BFG. Tough to say what's going on with BFG though atm, their cards are still carrying the high MSRPs at Newegg. I'll say that I'm especially with EVGA, they've really gone the distance with making their customers happy.

1) Free DVI > HDMI adapter mailed out because it wasn't included in the box.

2) Free copy of 3DMark Vantage Professional. Only reason I can run the benchmark at all.

3) Dealing with the rabid/unhappy customers on their site, including reimbursing step-up people.

4) Changing their Step-Up MSRP prices on the GTX 260 and 280.

5) Offering straight Cash Back to early adopters.

I think its pretty obvious NV is willing to bear the brunt of this one and eat the loss. Makes UMAP worth it, as I doubt the "foreign" partners will commit to something like this.

Well, one would expect (and hope) that BFG and PNY, at least, would follow suit. For those not aware, PNY is headquartered in Parsippany (NJ).

Very nice for all those who bought a 280/260. NVidia's partners are definitely much better than ATI's.

Now that is commitment to customer satisfaction. Those two brands just seem to get more and more attractive

eVGA has really impressed me. They offered a nice deal earlier this year for people who wanted to upgrade their 680 motherboards to a 780.

I just did their trade up program with a 8800gtx I bought recently. I did two 8800 GTX's in SLI for a while but didn't like some of the limitations - especially related to dual monitors - so I traded up the newer 8800GTX for a 280. Ended up paying about $100 on top.

Wow, if I would have gotten a GTX280 over a HD4870 that would have been sweet. But even though this won't effect me it goes to show the kind of company eVGA is. All about customer loyalty. Next nVidia card I buy will definitely be eVGA - again.

Pretty cool of XFX too.

Same here. XFX had been annoying me to hell recently with their Alpha Dog artwork and "buxom babe" marketing. I figure they're off my s**t list now.

If NV comes up with something worth shelling out for next go round, I might tolerate having the slobbering XFX doggy on my heatsink shroud .

One would only hope that other companies will sit up and take notice of this novel idea called "customer appreciation". I know it's a new idea to most of them, but just maybe some of them might decide to implement a form of it themselves.

Props to XFX/eVGA!

evga and xfx have made a killing for the past few years selling nvidia cards. this is a GREAT business move for both of them, bfg and any others claiming to be top-tier nvidia board partners are going to be forced to follow suit imho or risk losing even more ground when nvidia comes roaring back.

speaking of which, I think that it's not a matter of IF but WHEN they come back. I'm confident that at some point in the future I'll be buying an nvidia graphics card again, and with great customer service like this I don't see how you can justify "NOT" purchasing from evga or xfx.

LOL, you are a troll, poor product planning and launch, you're having a laugh....how are they supported to see into the future and what ATi are going to launch.....f**king toser!

Edit - A poor product launch & planning is the fiasco that was ATI x1800 & X1900 series...

I'm willing to give MSI a pass on this one -- they were offering some pretty killer deals on both cards that even these cashback offers probably won't be able to match. But I agree that the pressure is on the other guys to step up, or risk people flocking to XFX and EVGA next time they're in the market for an NV card.

I'm kind of curious where the money is coming from to do these offers. IIRC, I read about NV offering some price protection to its more favored partners after the price drops, so this might be them passing it along to the end users.

I got a VT 4850 @ BB launch week ($150 deal was too good to pass up) but had nothing but problems with it and returned this week. It overheated during any gaming (even with fan boosted to the highest noise level I could stand), even WoW @ 1680x1050. Compared to what I'm using now, 8800GT 256MB, which handles WoW @ 1920x1200 and simultaneously cranks out 4800ppd F@H.

So I'm in the market for an nV card and am happy with the reduced pricing.

Such an eloquent response not even addressing the point. I'm not sure what you are so angry about. I don't have time to argue when it's been said already. There are plenty of other points but it's pretty easy to judge for yourself.

Moving on, I wonder how this situation will affect the future market. If statements are true that Nvidia is taking a loss on the 200 series launch and sales, how will affect R&D for next gen cards? I feel bad for NV vendors who have to put up with all this but I feel good for all of us consumers who benefit.

More/better ATI vendor and game support? I don't care if I have NV or ATI so as long as I get a good bang for the buck and less problems and bugs. Most of us are commited to either SLI or Xfire MB's though which may make changing more difficult.

Sounds like something is wrong with the card. While the 4850's do have junky stock coolers and do run hot, you should be able to keep in tolerances under load with the fan turned up 80%+. Mine never gets above 70C under load. A 280 or 260 would be a huge upgrade for you but almost much more costly. =/

Prices are diving down on the 280 already, newegg already has a PNY card for $419 AR)
