I've heard that this makes a decent, low-power Phys-X coprocessor, too.

Yes, because it has a relative high number of CUDA cores for the power draw/cost.

Overall price is not bad; but there were better deals over 6mos ago on this card or gt240's.
These cards make for a good bang for buck folding cards too

It has 96 unified shaders, just like the 8800GS/9600GSO, but this model has a 128-bit memory bus with GDDR5, giving it more memory bandwidth than the older cards. Core and shader clocks are about the same. As a Phys-X copro it would roughly equal, if not a little faster due to the increased memory bandwidth while drawing ~15 watts less.

Well I have the 1GB DDR5 version and can say in reality (as opposed to marketing or benchmarks) the 9600GT performs better in my system... by a reasonable margin...I'm not too impressed at all really and that's me being nice here....

Got this card three weeks ago ($40 AR). Very nice upgrade from my onboard graphics.

It's neither. A 9600GT has 64 shaders; a 9800GT has 112 and this has 96. It's basically a 40nm 9600GSO, but with a 128-bit memory bus. GDDR5 gives it a memory bandwidth approaching that of a 9600GT or 9800GT.
but a 9600GT is a little faster. Maybe averages around 5% faster
At stock speeds, yes. Overclock it to the same clockspeed as a 9600GT (650/1625/900) and it should beat it.

So the 9600GT is still faster. I'm sure you are already aware of it, but the 9600GT can be overclocked also

It is actually more like a 8800GT, which became the 9800GT, which became the gt240

Not quite. 8800 became 9800 became GTS 250, they're all based off the G92 core. The 240 is a step below that line, but still makes a nice budget card or PhysX card. I got one for around $30 a while ago for an HTPC and haven't had any issues.

9800 isn't the same as a GTS250. GTS250 has more shaders and texture units and a higher clock/shader and memory speed

any of you think the combo w/psu is worth it? I know the psu doesn't get the greatest review, but if you could get the rebates back it would make for a good deal. I was planning to keep the psu as a spare in the event my dad or someone else needs one in an emergency situation; I could sell it to them.

Did you overclock it?

Not yet - I've heard via the video card forum the CPU in the system is possibly holding back the card.

I hope to receive an upgraded CPU this weekend and I'll report back with some overclocks too.

you have to reg the xfx card within 30 days of purchase, or else you have ZERO warranty FWIW
same with Evga; you have to register within 30 days or you get a 1 yr warranty I believe.

I would like to see this price with no rebate or a much smaller rebate; like $10
