This deal is good for someone who wants performance between GTX670 and GTX680. The XFX Double Dissipation is an average cooler on this card but it comes with a real Lifetime Warranty as all XFX Double Dissipation cards do and what looks to be $150+ of free games.

Not sure what the deal is if the Medal of Honor game is 20% off then. I am going to edit my thread and wait for confirmation that it's free. Otherwise I am putting a placeholder that it's 20% off not free.

Looks like these games bundles will apply to HD7900 series (and other cards) and should spread to any HD7970, not just this XFX.

AMD has also revealed major driver improvements as seen in this thread, with HD7970 series benefiting 7% overall:

Sometimes drivers are improved 4-7% in 1 release. NV's 270.61s gave 7% over 266.58s.

They didn't drag their feet. There was a bottleneck with memory management sub-system (memory bandwidth feeding GCN shaders) and it took NV almost 10 months to figure out how to resolve it. This is why these drivers only affect HD7000 series, not HD4000-6000 cards. It's not as if AMD held back this drivers for 10 months. Think about it, with this new driver, the 925mhz HD7970 is as GTX680.

Why would AMD purposely have held back this driver and instead were forced to lower prices of HD7970 from $550 all the way to $399? If they knew how to resolve this inefficiency earlier, it would have been released months ago.

Doubtful that NV can do something like this because Kepler is just Fermi enhanced. It's not a new architecture. Where is NV going to find issues as Fermi architecture has been optimized for 2 years now and NV has had another 7 months to optimize Kepler which is just Fermi with no shader clocks and minor enhancements to cache. GCN is only 10 months old. It wasn't unexpected to see a performance improvement similar to how NV optimized Fermi by 10% over time with 1 driver giving 7%.

This deal on Newegg is even better:

Sapphire Dual-X 7970 1Ghz for $387 with same free games. The cooler is better and clocks are 1Ghz vs. 925mhz for that XFX card.
