XFX is total crap...

I purchased an XFX graphics card about a week ago, and the card turned out to be bad. This was no big deal as I have had computer parts and other things go bad on me before. I then went to the XFX USA website to find out the number to call to get an RMA. I took down the number for the USA site and proceeded to call. Obviously it was a long-distance number, so I took the appropriate actions. However, I didn't know HOW long distance it really was. It turned out that the number on the USA site was for a Japanese phone number. After much frustration trying to figure out what the guy on the other end of the phone was saying in Ingrish, He gave me the phone number for the USA branch, which is what I wanted anyway. However, the number he gave me was a NON-WORKING number! I called back up to tell them the situation, and was given a different number the second time around. However, this number turned out to be for a dentist office in California . So, I decided to search around on the Net to see if I could come up with anything else. I found 3 US numbers; 2 of which were no longer in service. The third one, I had a HELL of a time trying to get through, and spent roughly 3 hours trying to reach someone. Once I finally did, I was able to get an RMA, but COOOMEON! This is BY FAR the worst tech support I have ever gotten; period.

Moral of the story: Unless you have complete faith that the card won't fail, or you have insane amounts of cash and don't give a rats ass whether or not a part fails, DON'T EVER BUY AN XFX GRAPHICS CARD. :| :disgust:

EDIT: Here's the "working" number, that I was able to get an RMA from: 1-800-880-3225

Yeah, but the japanese couldn't help me, and even if they could, I couldn't, for the life of me, understand what the hell the guy was saying! All I know, is that from now on, I will probably buy BFG cards, as I have had ZERO problems with them. And FOR-FREAKING-GET about an ATI card, as that just aint happening

Yeah your nickname screams out "fanboy". At least you're up front about it.

Errr, the guy is just trying to do his job? His accent is different than yours because he's from another part of the world.

Like it or not, it's a global economy now, and you can't always deal with Cletus down the block.

I can appreciate frustration communicating with someone who is difficult to understand, but it's the way of it for many companies.

I had an XFX 6800 nu with a broken temp probe, and an XFX 6800GT that had mad artifacts right out of the box.

Compeletly agree. Never going to buy XFX... ever.

Sorry you had such a horrible experience, geforcetony, but could you post the tech support number here for the benefit of others?

In my experience, being upfront about it prevents being called out in the first place, yet I am currently looking at the ATI TV Wonder Pro for a possible HTPC.

Why not get your RMA number from the retailer you purchased it from?
This would have saved you a big headache...

I don't know why people feel the need to stick up for the general "companies". It's their responsibility, if they have tech support, to make sure that tech support can be understood by their customers. Period. This guy wasn't putting down the Japanese guy on the other end, he was putting down XFX for hiring someone who couldn't even speak English properly. Just because it's "the way of it" doesn't mean it's right. On another note, at least the tech support was Japanese. Even if they couldn't speak English properly, you're speaking to a person who's making more than a slave's wages, if you know what I mean.

You probably talked to a Chinese guy not Japanese. Pine aka XFX headquarters is based in Hong Kong.

i recently had a bad experience with these people too. i had a card (5600u) which was overheating and locking up at stock speeds. it took 3 emails before i got a response, and the answer was "call this number." i called the number and got no answer. i tried again, and after a dozen or so rings, a guy answers the phone. i had a problem understanding exactly what he was saying, but not because of an accent. the guy was slurring his words - it was like talking to someone who was drunk. he was impatient, rude, and a little condescending. he insisted that there was no such thing as version 56.72 drivers from nvidia, and his answer to my problem was to install the latest drivers. i told him that i tried the latest drivers, and not only did they not solve the overheat problem, but they made the card about 15% slower. he responded with a loud sigh, and insisted that i install the latest drivers and call back if it didn't work.

i ended up emailing newegg, where i bought the card. they gave me a full refund.

another thing i love about xfx is their occasional tendency to send out video cards to be reviewed which are better than the ones they sell to the public.

I just received a DOA XFX 6600gt from Monarch which I will be RMAing very shortly. Never again will I try to cut costs going with a lower quality brand.

I don't get it why people don't do their RMA with their retailer. That's where you got it from, and that's where it goes back to if it doesn't work.

I wasn't sticking up for a company, I was sticking up for a person doing his job after the OP made a fairly racist comment about his frustration with the guy's "Ingrish".

Why should Pine have American workers only? They sell cards in other parts of the world too?

Why would a company based in another country open a branch of customer service in every country they sell to? If they had people who spoke the language of their customers, they've done all they need to.

What those people make is none of our business.

He was not being racist as he was commenting on his lack of education refinement. If a guy from the US can't spell and I'd point it out and call him illiterate... I'm making a racist comment? You're looking way too hard into it, you're seeking justice over nothing, get over it and stick to the subject of XFX is crap.

Also, The reason this company is bashed not cause they have overseas workers, but people say "support america, buy from american companies and have easier time cause they're in the US" and all along they have their tech support in hong kong, kinda ironic don't you think. Why don't you go adopt those kids in africa while you're in mother teresa mode.

OK, here's the deal, I WAS IN NO WAY trying to be racist, all I was trying to do is show how crap-ass the support was from XFX. If they have a number on their website that is supposed to be the one for the US technical support office, it should be LOCATED in the US, NOT Japan. As far as the phone numbers are concerned, the one I have posted as an edit in my original post is the one that I was able to get working...AFTER THREE FREAKING HOURS! So, there you have it, MY official reponse, and thanks SickBeast, you hit the nail on the head about the whole "fanboy" thing, as I have had problems with ATI (and VIA, for that matter) in the past.

Yeah, I totally agree. The whole reason I ended up buying the card was because of the review in Maximum PC, which they gave their coveted Kick Ass award to the very card I bought.

XFX is total crap. I bought an xfx 6800gt, it came with underclocked ram at 900mhz, fortunately it oc'ed to 1000 but wont go higher than 1020  . I'd considered RMA'ing the card when I first found the underclocked memory, but after some brief e-mail contact with xfx, I realized they are on the fine line of being crooks. Their tech support purposefully gives the run-around and talks out of their arse with their inane and obviously distractory suggestions. I ended up keeping the card as I had a feeling sending it to them it would never come back. rofl. I will never buy another xfx card again of course. Don't buy XFX! EVER!

Was that an AGP 6600GT you got? If I'm not mistaken, the AGP 6600GT's usually run memory at 900mhz. If not, ignore me.

-----WARNING READING BELOW MAY DISCOURAGE YOU FROM BUYING XFX CARDS--------------------
=================================================================

I have a story... just bought a XFX 6600gt card around 4 weeks ago... plugged it into my new Dell Dimension 4700...I was able to play Farcry but there was some shadow problems... it was like there was this black triangle wherever I go.. so I am assumming that this is shadow rendering done wrong. After 20 mins.. the entire machine powers off.. I could not start machine whatever i did. I then bought another ps thinking that PS must be faulty since I based my buying decision on reputable magazines and organizations... ( just look at the website and the magazines they have advertised saying how good the prod is.) I bought new 400w ps.. from even more reputable company. Told my wife to plug it while I look at machine interior... when she powered it on.... a flame suddenly came out of what I later determined to be the memory ( just like lighting a match ).. the flame quickly went away when the machine was powered down.

Returned card and got myself a Leadtek... plugged it to my machine and no problems to this day. In fairness Anandtech after 3 weeks did a 6600gt shootout.

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2295

they rated leadtek as #1 editor's choice. XFX temp on the shootout was rated at 98 degrees or something like that. From my experience that was an understatement.

I was lucky.. my machine came out unscathed and all I had to pay was restocking fee.... RMA would have taken like weeks ( I left out the details of the fire ha ha ha).

I am not a Leadtek employee but just someone who had a very very bad experience.

Interesting that you guys are having such problems with XFX cards. I run an XFX 5800 and a 5200 and I've never had a problem with either. Plus, when I didn't get a low-profile bracket with my 5200, I emailed XFX and they volunteered to send me one at no charge. Sorry to hear that your experiences aren't as pleasant.
