No, XFX is not equal to ASUS. But Leadtek, BFG, and eVGA are all trusted names. You could opt for one made by one of those companies.

XFX is no where near the quality of Asus. Asus is among the top teir manf on video cards. XFX is a "bottom-feeder".

Top Teir:
Asus, Gainward, EVGA, Leadtek, MSI, BFG

Mid Teir:
Powercolor, Sparkle, HiS

Low Teir:
PNY, XFX

Just because they are low in these teirs does not make them bad; (ie: HiS makes some awesome coolers and cards, however they are relatively new, dont sell in large numbers etc...)

Ive had 2 pny's and had no trouble with them but i also think that it doesnt perform as well as it should. But that probably counts for how cheap i picked it up too. It was about 100 bucks less than the asus, gainward leadtek, albatron group of cards.

You'll want the ASUS board because ASUS' products are top notch especially in motherboards. I've had an ASUS 32x12x40 CD-R/RW for 2 1/2 years and it is still working flawlessly. Go for quality (ASUS) even if it happens to be a bit more expensive.

What out tho. Usually Asus video cards are downclocked version of the real card. I.E. Ive seen Asus "6800gt" that have 350 mhz core but 700mhz memory, so be careful.

That's the 128Mb version...

Usually downclocked?? Don't speak if you are not sure what you are talking about...

Much much closer there.

I would have to lean towards Asus, but MSI is not bad by any means. The MSI will probably OC higher but the Asus will probably be a little better quality.

I have an MSI 5900XT right now and the fan is nearly silent!

Just flip a coin here.

I agree. Basically, anything but XFX and PNY is good. I've owned cards from both companies, including my current XFX 6800GT. As I said, anything BUT XFX and PNY.

Between XFX and ASUS, I'd go with ASUS.

However, if I were to buy from any brand, the preferred would be LeadTek.

Bah...I like XFX. I have had an XFX 5900 and XFX 6800GT. Both were great cards. Exellent overclockers, and you gotta love teh blue PCB. On what grounds are you guys basing asus over XFX?

I myself hate asus cards. They are terrable cards from a terrable company. They pulled alot of bullshit scams with the 6800 line of cards. They used weird naming to trick people into buying cards that were all screwy. Such as teh 6800 that has 16 pipes, but DDR1 as 6800 clock speeds, yet they called it a 6800GT and sold it for more thant he 6800GT. I also have never ever liked their pricing. They are often $50-$100 more than there compitition for a worse card, and how do they justify it, they give you a webcam with your videocard A perfect example is the Asus X800XL. Its priced over $130 more than the cheapest X800XL, AND its clocked lower than X800XL spec. Every other XL is atleast 400/980 and has 256MB of GDDR3. The asus is clocked at 392/700 and has 256MB of DDR1. $130 more for a crappier card...SIGN ME UP! And, if anyone yells what about dual DVI, you can get a normal clocked, GDDR3 dual DVI card for $70 less. Asus is selling brand name crap!

Get any brand but Asus.

Asus dosent set prices for their cards. supply and demand form stupid people do.

if you dont know what your'e talking about stay out of it. ASUS is WAY better than XFX. XFX has had many capitor issues, and other crap not usually associated with the other companies. their customer service is widely hailed as the worst in the industry. There is a reason why they charge less.

I have a geforce2ti from ASUS and it works wonderfully. dosent have 1 single problem to complain of.

If asus charges the retailer more for the card, the retailer is naturally going to raise the price. Dont think Asus is selling these card to resalers for the same prices as everyone else. Alsoo..I still dont see how everyone can look past the fact that Asus cripples their cards and then gives them misleading names to make people who dont know that much about technology think its just as good. Did you not look at that XL examlpe. THe other cards would perform quite a bit beter, for over $100 LESS! If you woudl like, I can provide more examples of Asus doing this. Even if you dont trust XFX, go with an honest john brand like Leadtek or evga.

problem is they dont charge more, they charge less but make less so when you have 10 cards priced at $250 and 3000 cards priced at $350, the $350 card will hit msrp due to supply and the $250 card will be way above msrp due to the lower supply.

also, websites usually only updates prices when they get a shipment of cards so the old price may still be on there for some cards in the era before it was mass available(ex. 2 months ago, x800xls routinely sold for $600-800. now since that retailer got no more shipments of the asus x800xl cards, while it got new shipments of the powercolor cardsm the powercolor prices have been updated tor reflect the new lower prices due to supply and the retailer has failed to update prices for the asus card since it hasnt got anymore so there is no point to change price since supply outstrips demand cause they have none of those cards.)

Ive never had a problem with XFX, but if there cards have shown problems then thats fine, dont get XFX, but I still in any right mind cannot reccomend ASUS. Also, on the issue of pricing, ill even go with you on that and saying its the retail marking it up, that doesnt exuse the fac that most of there cards are in some way crippled / underclocked / not to spec and use a decieving name to sell them because there a well known brand.

look, we can argue about this but the price theory is already debunked if you read what i just added to my original post.

face it every comapmny does this with that fx 5700le farce(slower than last gen 4600ti) to the se and "atlantis" cards. it's just not possible to hate 1 company for their practices. do yuo hate intel for signing exclusive deals? do you hate Sony for suing anybody like those aibopet "hackers" and making everything proprietary? do you hate dell for selling a 6800gto? it's how the economy works. jast accept it, move on and laugh at the idiots that bought those cards.

Its just poor busniess practice the way Asus tricks customers I understand other companies to it, such as your atlantis example, but they atleast add something to the name to raise a question. Asus is giving the products the exact same name. Like you said, this not really woth arguing over, but I am sticking to my guns on reccomending any brand but Asus. You will either pay the same, or a bit more for a lesster quality card or pay much more for the same thing everyone else is selling. I stick to reccomending brands like Evga and Ledteak. They offer stock specs, quality cards, and good prices.

XFX is garbage. So is PNY. ASUS is very good. BFG is the best out of the box. Leadtek is the best for OCing. EVGA is up there too.

This is called ignorance, if you aren't able of knowing what you are buying then you deserve it....

I sure as hell know what I am buying, but not everyone does...and Asus is trying to take advange of that, plain and simple. If they werent, they would give there cards different names to make the downgrades to the standard more apparent, but they dont.
