Last time I asked, it was not okay to remove...

Looked on the website and it said it's okay so long as you let them know. Ask first. It's silly.

Silly indeed. Actually, we only ask you to let us know so we can 2x check the 3rd party cooler you are using.. there were alot of customers in the past who "forced" a 3rd party cooler that broke their cards, or simply wasnt good enough. not all 3rd party cooling is better.

we dont void your warranty if you didnt contact us ^_^

Hey XFX rep, why company decided to remove Lifetime Warranty from r9 390 cards ?
I was going to buy but then i saw they all have 2 year Warranty and i've change my decision. Like this you'll have less customers trust me.
It's temporary or final?

The XFX Lifetime warranty is only available now at Best Buy in stores.

The reason it was removed isn't clear. There is no official statement, anyhow.

Some of the techs here have some good theories, which combined make a pretty good case as to why its probably gone though.

My favorite theory was GPU's for profit/mining. The warranty was meant to protect gamers from gaming related failures that could be manufacturer defect, but instead, people were buying hundreds of GPU's and farming them for bitcoins/altcoins... which at first wasn't a problem, even running at 100% load for months on end, they did well... but then the bios flashing/modding (voids warranty, hard to prove) of the cards for better hashes and lower wattage started... then we started see RMA's of 10-25 units at a time, for $300 graphics cards... and it was insane.

We were familiar with getting 50-100 units a week, 1 card, 1 customer, 8+ years non stop (of course it varied). Very rarely we'd get 2 units from 1 customer... then literally over a few months, dozens of huge RMA's came in and i think that's what helped finalize the decision, or atleast get the conversation started.

Anyway, the XFX Lifetime Warranty has always been something we have been proud of and seeing it go really was a sad moment for us all. Alas, Best Buy still has it, so there's that.

Mark.

what do you guys think about how I killed 2 8800/9800GTs in a row when I got a bit of AS5 on the GPU decoupling capacitors (on the die PCB) next to the die? That scared me away from ever trying again-- I bought the 3rd and left the cooler on it! I just would think this would be a bigger problem if I managed to do it twice back to back in spite of being as careful as possible.

yeah that was just abuse plain and simple. I'm not in the least bit surprised it was removed, and then people getting angry when the cards break. We're talking about an order of magnitude more power over the lifetime of the product...

???

Using XFX Fury X as an example.

Bestbuy in stock $699.99 free shipping
Newegg out of stock $679.99 $9.99 shipping

Seems warranty would trump tax.

10% off movers coupons are readily available for free or $5 or so on eBay.

Bestbuy is cheaper in the end with coupon code even with sales tax. Not counting reward zone $'s back. Special financing interest free 12months, Xtra zone points if use BB card and payoff balance next statement. Bestbuy does have use in this world still....Sometimes
