XION Supernova newegg link

Hey there, I'm looking at getting a new new pwr supply for my computer and was intrigued by the price and wattage of the XION Supernova... Newegg had 5 eggs, but I find that this means nothing because "some" of the time the people who write reviews on that site don't always know what they are talking about..

I have never used the "XION" brand and was wondering if any of you have or if you could point me to a good 600W power supply.

Thanks,
-Vinny

Several things...you do understand those are not reviews on NewEgg correct?
At best they are customer comments!!

Also XION is NOT a name brand PSU.....
I would go with the corsair brand myself...
There are many name brands that I am sure you would be happy with.

Also that style of modular connector I am told there are issues.

Good Luck!!

Yeah, I understand that they are not "reviews" I just couldn't put my tongue, or fingers in this case, on the right word to use..

I have used Corsair myself and do like them! I'll probably go for one this time I just wanted to know if any of you have used these "XION"...

looks like corsair it is, or ultra. I have had good luck with Ultra in the past...

thanks,
-Vinny

I'll vouch for Corsair. I have one. The Corsair HX520W would be a better choice than that XION not only from build quality most likely but from a performance standpoint. The HX520W has 40A on the 12V combined. The XION has 20A each on two 12V rails, but that won't add together directly. Now the HX620W (what I have) has a whopping 50A combined on the 12V rails. Also if you notice those amperage ratings are MAX ratings, while I believe the Corsair's is continuous ratings. Big difference there.

If you poke around a little you can probably find the HX620W for not much more than that XION costs. I paid newegg's full price on it minus $15 rebate, but other places have it cheaper (buy.com comes to mind). I just needed a new PSU since my Antec I had before blew up so I ordered that quickly without shopping around first.

Thanks SparkyJJO! Very informative, to be honest I've didn't even see that that wasn't a continuous supply... HUGH difference.

and I like the one you got and posted, looks like its a possibility. I'll probably go for the 620w

*note, I couldn't find the HX620W or HX520W but upon further searching discovered that they are the same as CMPSU-620HX and CMPSU-520HX now...* just and update for anyone who read this ^_-

There seems to be limited info on the Xion, and I take that as a bad sign. The Supernova 600 only has 32A combined 12V output which is low for a 600W psu considering the Corsair HX520 has 40A. The combined 3.3/5/12V rails only total 530W which means the 600W is peak output. The warranty appears to be only 1 year, but I cannot confirm since nothing about the warranty is listed in plain view on their website. You could probably send them an email for a response.

The Corsair HX520 (520HX) is only $79 AR @ buy.com and it comes with a 5 year warranty!

** I was busy researching the Xion and it looks like Sparky posted 90% of what I said, lmao.

Sorry about that, I forgot to mention it. The actual model# is what you posted, but on the side of the units they have HX620W so it confuses me sometimes

As was mentioned, it's pretty weak on the +12V rails for a 600W unit. And since there is no UL file number, you can't find out who actually made it w/o taking it apart - I'm sure Xion doesn't actually make PSUs.

I've been very satisfied with the 500 watt Xion PowerReal I got from zipzoomfly about 6-9 months ago. It's powered my X1950xt without any problems at all. I even got my Brisbane OC'd up to 2.6 Ghz, and have no problems. My friend bought a Xion 600 watt for his Core 2 Duo E6600, and 8800 GTS build. Had no problems at all with it.

The quality of the PSU seems fine to me. I only was out around 40-50 buck on it after mail in rebate. At the time I bought it, my 7600 GT, and a motherboard for around 150 bucks. Was an awesome deal I couldn't pass up. If I had the choice to go back, and change to a $100.00-$150.00 PSU I wouldn't do it. This has worked great for me, and the voltage on all my rails are perfect.

I would buy again, only if it was from their Power-Real line or possibly the new Supernova. Stay away from their lower end models. I saw some reviews that some hardware site did on the PowerReal 500 before I bought it, and that's what led me to buy it. $40-50 bucks FTW.

FWIW Hardware Canucks will be posting their review of the Xion Supernova 600W in the near future.

Whats interesting is there are many many people using PSU`s that other wouldn`t ever consider using and visa verse..
For one reason or another...price...brand....workmanship....noise......not cutting edge enough...modular...not modular...bling...no bling......brand of Cap`s.....pfc....no pfc.......and the list goes on and on...

People who know would hope that others would listen and use something that is a name brand in order that you would avoid problems in the future. So every body is trying to be helpful!

The true bottom line is if your happy with your Xion PSU or for that matter any other PSU regardless of who says its good or who says it`s bad it is your decision -- if your happy--keep on keeping on!!

I have heard of the Xion brand before. It`s made by topower I believe....

Looking forward to that review!!! --- thx for the heads up John!!

Peace!!
