if Anyone is considering getting either one. Be Aware that they both offer only AM radio quality. If your Car Stereo is anything more then 4 crappy speakers, you'll hear a huge difference on both XM and Sirius. They both sound liek a bad, highly compressed MP3 at about 64bit. Meaning it's only good enough for talk radio. I'd rather take 16 channels at 10X the quality. 10 160 channels that all sound like crap.

I can assure you I have a much better than average car audio/video system and both XM and Sirius are head and sholders above FM. Sure there is compression, but it isnt as bad as people would want you to believe.

Sounds like Free-FM FUD to combat their listeners leaving in droves.

Let me give you guys the number I got to their "Customer Retention Department". Like I said, I just mentioned Sirius and got 6 free months, which is basically what this ad is giving you. Maybe existing subs with have better luck with that.

i got this deal for buying an acura. you'll notice that it says... for factory installed vehicles, though apparently you can get a nice csr and get it on an standalone unit.


XM is not as expensive as people think. it is $13 a month if you pay month to month.

if you pay for 2 years at a time its $240. the 2 years is prorated, so if you cancel you get the remainder back, so really at worst XM is $10 a month which is cheaper than siriius (not sure if serious has a bulk 2 year or 5 year plan though).


if you are creative you can sign up with your friends as a group. additional radios are like $5 a month so if youre friend has a car with XM you can sign up together etc.

This is awesome. I have been waiting for something like this to come along. I got xm in my new truck. When my 3 free months were up they called me up to get me to subscribe. I didn't have any cash at the time and told them no. Then they asked me why I paid an extra $200 for the radio equiped with xm if I wasn't going to use it. Well if that guy had been in front of me he would have been laying on the ground. So I proceeded to tell him that when there is a truck on the lot that you want that costs 40,000 paying $200 for the radio isn't a deal buster. What a moron.

I have had both sirrius and xm and I like xm better. Mainly because of a talk show that sirrius doesn't carry. I also like top tracks real well better than anything I ever found on sirrius.

Yreka that is funny you say that. I don't know if you subscribe to direct tv but they replaced the music channels that they had with xm channels.

Out of curiosity why not call the number on the flyer?

I can assure you I have a much better than average car audio/video system and both XM and Sirius are head and sholders above FM. Sure there is compression, but it isnt as bad as people would want you to believe.

I have a pretty decent audio setup in my truck: CDT CL-61a's component system and an Image Dynamics IDQv.2 10" sub. I was disappointed with XM's quality when I first heard it. I then upgraded my XMDirect box to output optical and SPDI/F and I gained a good bit of sound quality from that.

I wouldn't call it a 64kbps Mp3, but somewhere around 128kbps. I've found that I really only notice it when my truck is not moving. Once I start driving, the road noise and actually driving keep me from focusing on the sound quality. It's not all that bad, but there is room for improvement.

I actually do subscribe to DTV, thanks for reminding me about that. I forgot about the XM channels being on there, that will work out very well once my XM sub runs out. I meant that XM is becoming like Direct TV in that they have a customer retention department. You can call and get special deals, like all those people getting HDTivos for $100 a while back for threatening to go back to cable.

I just put the alternative CR number because someone was saying they wont offer the deal on the flyer to existing stand alone customers.

Nice setup

I am actually running the HD-62's up front and a set of Boston Pro 6.5's in the rear cab. Right now, I have my XM and Sirius units hooked direcly into my Ai Net on my IVA-D901.
On top of an ipod interface and Dolby processor, if I get any more "control boxes" I am gonna have to buy a bigger truck

There is definatly room for improvement with XM and Sirius, I just took issue with the "AM quality" comment. While it isnt quite up there with CD or high MP3, it is still quite a bit better than AM and FM. Even on "4 crappy speakers"

Called the number from the first post and got a very nice lady that pulled up my account but when I told her why I was calling I was asked where I got the information about this offer. I told her from a friend and she said unless I had the code that comes with the offer there is no way she can tie it to my account. I asked where I can get the code and she said they would have to send it to me. I guess it wasn't meant to be.

I called the 1-800-682-4114 number that suniths said to call. Got a nice young lady and told her my wife had seen the add for one year at $77. She said no problem, asked for my wife's XM#, had to verify my address, and she signed me up. $82.75 with tax. Sweet deal. This deal starts when the wife's old service was due to stop. Hmmm.. Yeah its not SACD quality thats for sure, but in a car, its more than enuff. Its better than FM thats for sure.

Its strange you mention its only good for talk radio, well the compression rears its ugly head more on the talk channels than on anything else.

I'll take the 120 channels of variety over 10 channels thanks. I just got back from a road trip to Vermont, 6+hrs each way.
With sat radio, it was almost a pleasure driving all that way. I was never a fan of Stern, but i have to admit i was laughing my a$$ off most of the way up.

As for xm or sirius, its more similar than different. Get either and you will be very happy. I have a good friend who has xm in his acura, and as far as music is concerned, its more or less the same.

I had a choice of either on my car and i went sirius. If you can get in on this deal get it, get it now.

Difference between sat and reg radio is night and day, even beyond the cable and regular tv comparison.

Thanks I called, they got the radio number, I told them I wanted the 1 year for $77 as on the flyer. She said it was just for existing members. I told her that I guess I didn't read the fine print and "that's ok, just forget it. I have a sirius radio now (which I do,just not in service) and will just stick with it." Then I got the deal

i've got xm in my acura. and i do not think it sounds anything like 64kbps mp3s. probably in the 112kbps range. which is plenty for the car speakesr i have (i think its like 8 speakers 360 watts).

it is far far better than FM anyway. plus best thing is no commercials and a lot more variety of music.
