Neither XM or Sirius are doing spectacular, but XM is doing better than Sirius. XM subcriptions are at least double Sirius, and have the GM contract. If you were going to go with one, XM is more likely to be around longer. This stuff is still very new, equipment will soon be cheap if not free, just like DTV and DISH equipment. The $$ is in the sub fees.

Hey all. I posted the original thread I do believe... After realizing my original error with the fine print on the rebate form, I tried to do a price match to a local retailer here who claims to offer a "lowest price guarantee." I thought for sure I could make this deal!

I was pleasant to the point of being sugary, but was politely declined he $99 price on the identical unit. The explanation was that "just like cel phones, the service provider gives subsidies to various retailers at various times." Nothing in their price-match policy mentions anything about XM or Sirius products not being covered, but the manager flatly refused to match the price of CC. He did offer me the $100 mail-in rebate when I called back to get the name of the chains regional manager, but they would not match the price up front.

I have no other local retailers to attempt a pm with, so it looks like I am out of luck. I might give the Crutchfield deal a try, but I have doubts that Pioneer will ante up, depending on what the "receipt" from Crutchfield shows.

Damn double posts tonight, my fingers are fumbling. What sat4fun means is that with the Delphi unit you can get a home adapter or a boombox adapter (each for additional fee) and transfer the control unit from place to place. With the Pioneer, you are only able to use it in your car.

The pioneer unit is car mounted, not portable. The Sony PNP and Delphi Skyfi are the only units that you can move from location to location. The ability to move maximizes your usage and minimizes your costs. You have to sub each unit, there are no discounts for multiple units.

for those of you that might be interested in looking at and buying the skyfi, here's some info for you.

first, pics and basic info from xm. SkyFi at xmradio.com

second, go to this message board, send an email to the address on this thread, and you will receive and email with instructions, still valid and accepted by XM, that will allow you to purchase the skyfi receiver and one cradle (either home or car) for $99.

tristan, the moderator and owner of the board, has been told by FM not to post the email address, but that he can email information to people. he has repeatedly said that XM has told him that they will let him know if he can't do this anymore. so... so far so good. it's a great price and a great product. i have a home cradle, a car cradle, and a boombox. love it. i listen during commuting and all day at work on the boombox.

I thought that this deal was dead. Good thing if it is still going. I have a referral email address if clubXM guy flakes and the deal is still good.

Does this skifi come with everything or do you have to buy the fm modulator?

edit: I see that the deal comes with a vehicle adapter kit.. but if you don't have a cassette in your car you'd have to buy the fm modulator kit for $50.. sucks

Don't need anything if you have aux inputs. Aux inputs are the only way to go.

Has anybody seen a good deal on the Delphi model? What I'd really like to see is XM do something like the Dish folks are doing, you get the equipment for free and commit to a year of programming. Sure you get smacked with a heavy cancel fee if you don't follow through but I don't have a problem paying $10 a month or so for a year for a service that would be great for me. It's just that the Delphi portable units are kinda pricey, at least where I've looked.

I got the $99 deal like described above about 10 days ago. It worked fine. Then, last night I found a valid $50 rebate by searching on rebateshq.com, so it's really a good deal now!

RebateHQ Search for XM. I am sure that this rebate says that it is not to be combined with other offers, but I got $60 back when combined with the BestBuy coupon last year. This may be a YMMV deal.

Thanks for a head up on the rebate. I was unaware that it was still available.
