Thats because you got the old form off the xm site,Im told the rebate at the Pioneer site (who is paying the rebate) has been changed. Someone stated in another forum that they can legally change the rebate details before you postmark your rebate, which I think is probably accurate.Crutchfield has now been excluded and Im thinking theyll be getting a lot of XM tuners back.

Why do you hate FM radio? An overload of commercials and fluff, right? When you signed up did they ever guarantee that a commercial / fluff invasion would not happen on XM? I think you're all in for a reality check real soon. The last time I checked, there are just as many commercials and other annoyances on cable TV as "free" TV. They're just being good right now to reel everyone in.

Dude, you have it all wrong. It's all about programming. People go to cable or satellite for programming, or necessity due to signal, not to get away from commercials. Except for Howard Stern, all FM is crap. XM does have ads now on certain stations, but they are hardly noticable. Most of the stations are commercial free. Sirius currently does not have ads, but I bet that that will change with their financial situation. XM is in better financial shape. I suggest that you try it If you listen to music at all, you will love it. Great programming, great reception, everywhere.

I don't have anything wrong. Neither of these companies are making any money. It's only a matter of time before they sell out just like FM and start passing out the receivers like cable boxes. I also think it's funny how you disregard the draw of commercial-free radio. I seem to remember XM's initial marketing campaign emphasizing that fact. If it's not the #1 reason to switch to XM, then why the emphasis? It's also telling that those same commercials have all but disappeared.

I was refering to your thinking that people changed to cable due to no commercials, this is just not true. This may have been true for HBO and Showtime, but the other cable channels never said that. There have always been commercials on cable channels like CNN, ComedyCentral and the like. People went for programming. People went from three channels to 50 or so. I went to cable since it is the only way to get any signal where I lived, the extra channels were a bonus. The same is true for XM.

Regarding XM, it does have commercials, but they are hardly noticeable. There may or not be commercials in the future, but that has no real bearing on my decision to be a subcriber, since I enjoy what XM provides, good high quality music ANYWHERE! One hundred+ channels, I can change the channel when a comercial comes along if it comes to that. I would rather pay less and have some sponsorship. XM has some commercials and charges $9.95 a month, Sirius has none and chagres $12.95.

I had the same attitude as you prior to getting XM, but I am now hooked. I am listening to it now, I listen ALL day. After Stern I go to XM and listen all day at work, then pack it up for my trip home. I get my $10 worth. If you are so certain that there will be commerical, you better get in before they come.

I agree that they equipment will get cheaper, if not free, but XM is only about 15 months old. They must write off some R&D first.

BTW, when did FM sell out? Were they ever commercial free? You must live in a small radio market that couldn't sell airtime.

Ok guys,

I have already ordered from Crutchfield (beyond cancelation point) and don't feel like returning it with shipping charges lost :-(

How many folks are there in the same boat? If we stick together, we should be able to pull it. They don't have a statement like "Dealers list subject to change without notice" anywhere on the rebate. So they'd better honor it.

You can use the rebateHQ rebate, it's $50 less though.

Is that rebate being paid by XM?I glanced at it earlier but didnt take the time to register yet. I think the reason Pioneer changed the offer is because they paid for the crutchfield "instant rebate" while checking out.

Pretty much certain that Pioneer won't do it... someone called crutchfield and said that the IR was the MIR just an instant one.

UPDATE: someone at gordawallet called the number on the rebate form... he said there is NO problem if you send in the rebate without crutchfield on it.. so if you can find the form without crutchfield send it in!

6$ AR not bad..

I posted this reply to that post you mention-
Im glad the agent said the rebate was fine, but an agents opinion will not change how an offer works out as they dont set policy on any rebate.I dont know about this one,but most of you know many of them are clueless,or worse, confident (but still clueless).
Someone in the thread said that the rebate was changed by pioneer to exclude crutchfield, while someone else said that it wasnt changed at all and had excluded them prior to this offer, which was it?
There was also a case made that they can change the details of a rebate if its prior to the time you get it postmarked...
Id hate to see a lot people keeping this and going for the rebate in hopes they are getting cheap XM based on that guys post you reference.

It was changed after the offer on crutchfield.. the only reason I bought it was because of the free after rebate price.. I would not have bought it from crutchfield if there was no rebate from pioneer ..

I'm going to call the number on the form to verify it myself about the crutchfield exclusion on monday

This deal seems very much alive still. Just bought the tuner from Sears for 199.99. Sears is an authorized seller of Pioneer equipment (as per the pioneer website). Then just price match (110%) to best buy at 93.99, and Send in the mail in rebate. Avoid the hassle of Crutchfield all together.

You end up making like $10 after taxes and rebate.

Oh, and make sure to pick up in store to avoid shipping. When they pricematch, let them know that Bestbuy.com has free shipping, or that you can have the item for in store pickup at Best Buy, so that you can avoid having to match the price after shipping.

Forgot I posted here.

LOL, no they need to be "good" because this is a PAY service. If people don't like it then they will not pay. It's that simple. There's a big difference here. FM is free so they must have advertisers and such, in order to survive, plus since they are free, they can be more lax in what they play/do. XM, in order to survive, MUST satisfy it's paying customers. I love XM for the variety of programming(lack of commercials are up there too). They have great music stations(some ar uncensored), as well as Comedy channels that are great(and uncensored), news channels, Nascar radio, ESPN radio.

You can continue with that vision of what you think XM will be, but you are missing out. In the meantime, I'll continue to enjoy my XM.

Be careful about spending too much $$ on XM as they company isn't doing great financially.

Neither XM or Sirius are doing spectacular, but XM is doing better than Sirius. XM subcriptions are at least double Sirius, and have the GM contract. If you were going to go with one, XM is more likely to be around longer. This stuff is still very new, equipment will soon be cheap if not free, just like DTV and DISH equipment. The $$ is in the sub fees.

Heh, it's a LOT more than double. XM has about 400,000 subs, Sirius has about 30,000.
