I like Hip Hop and Country. Also anything comedic and sports. Talk shows are cool too!

Only reason we have XM is for baseball.

edit:

we're in florida, but we're from NY, so we like our NY teams. If we can't watch the game, we'll listen to it.

FIXED!

XM has the most commercial-free music. they also have something like 5 country stations, they have numerous talk stations, and several hip-hop/rap/urban stations.

Sirius has a better variety of music, while XM likes to pound that repetitive top 40 crap.

According to who? My kids always want us to listen to Radio Disney, so I hear the same teeny-bopper songs over and over all the time on THAT channel, but when i listen to other stations, I hear a large variety of music.

OP: http://lineup.xmradio.com
They have MLB and Hockey. they also currenlty have Nascar, but I believe that contract is expiring in 2007(?). they offer exclusive Indy racing, and the NCAA games (basketball and football, at least--not sure what else)

You also mentioned comedy--I think there are 4 comedy channels, plus High Voltage 202 which is home to Opie & Anthony and Ron & Fez. both of these shows are talk radio in the style of shock jocks. (For lack of a better way to describe it)

I guess if i had to buy a satelite radio set i'd go Sirius because my sister's family has it in 2 of their cars and it sounds great.

spoken like a true XM fanboi. stern is the most relevant thing to radio there ever was, and his shows keep getting better and better.

Have you listened to Sirius before? Besides walking past the display at your local Worst Buy?

If you're part of the comparatively small collection of sports fans that like hocky and nascar, by all means, get XM.

MLB is also a nice package to have if you enjoy baseball.

XM has 2 more commerical free stations that Sirius does, not really a big deal. Music wise, I think Sirius wins hands down. I don't listen to country, but I listen to hip/hop, rock, etc. I got bored listening to XM and would always just switch over to a CD. With Sirius, I just don't have to do that.

I personally don't like Stern, but that may or not be an advantage. When you add in NFL and NBA? No contest IMO.

I mentioned that I don't like the annoying repetitive stuff. You mention repetitive Disney crap and Nascar- cars which go in circles for 300 miles.

I did not mention comedy.

I've had XM since 2003. I like the service, have never had any problems with it, and overall, think it is a good service. What is really funny is that the people that try to tout Sirius use Stern as their one and only argument. Stern sucks--when I was abbout 15, I thought he was funny. the kielbasa queen...stuff like that was edgy and hilarious. Unfortunately, I grew up and he did not. 20 years later, he is just a slimeball perv that doesn't do anything except objectify women as sex objects. perhaps that is why so few subs were gained when he actually made the switch.

I find it funny how the only knock anyone can find against Sirius is that they don't like Stern. I got it and haven't listened to him for one second. Sirius has superior rock and metal stations, and the comedy stations are much better. That's what sold me on it.

I guess reading is not your strong point. i acknowledged your post, then I typed to the OP. i would have expected you to understand that when I typed OP: at the start of a new paragraph. To reiterate, i bolded it above. while YOU did not mention comedy, the OP did. And it's funny that you just bashed nascar since Sirious bought the contract for it.

I didn't bring up Stern; I merely responded to a post about him. I responded to the 2nd post that Siriue = Stern. I responded to that post and then answered the Op bu stating that I like XM. I also mentiioned the programming that XM has. i was then flamed as an XM fanboi. In that same flame post, we were told that Stern is the most relevant thing to radio there ever was. I simply responded with my reasons that i don't like Stern. i have said nothing against Sirius at all. it is up to the OP and anyone else that considers satellite radio to get the service they like better. I have no problems with XM. I think their technology is superior, but from what i understand, Sirius is working to bring new devices to market that will make them more competitive.

Overall, to each his own. I've checked out Sirius in the stores before, and I didn't see anything impressive enough to get me to switch.

Sirius has a better comedy line up, but they added talent to their uncensored channel the guys from Sopranos, and Jim Brewer. That killed it for me. I don't like listening to them, I just want to listen to standup.

XM has 3 comedy channels, but their regular comedy and uncensored stuff isn;t as funny as the stuff on Sirius. They added a New Canadian standup channel, but for some reason I was never able to tune it to them.

Sirius has the Playboy channel for free (you have to activate it through the web page) and Maxim Radio kicks ass.

My vote goes to Sirius.

The thing that really made me switch was the $500 lifetime of radio deal which ended. But now even if my radio breaks 3 times which runs out my $500 lifetime sub, I can still get service for $6 a month as an add on radio.

Compared to his terrestrial audience of course the numbers are low but that's to be expected... sat radio is still a medium in it's infancy.

The reality of what Stern was able to do is rather impressive:
Study: Sirius Pulls Even With XM; Stern Is The Reason

Sirius subscribers, on the other hand, were heavily motivated by the arrival of Stern. Overall, one-third (32%) of those who now pay for Sirius list him as the key factor in their decision. Other reasons include the music channels (19%), and commercial-free programming (12%).

One third of the Sirius subscribers in this study said Stern was the motivating factor in their subscription.

Will Oprah, who recently signed with XM, ever have a similar percentage? Very doubtful.

What other entertainer, besides Stern, do you believe could lure 1,000,000+ (by even the most conservative estimate) subscribers at $13/month? And/or be responsible for 1/3 of the customer base?

You can hate him all you want for his childish antics and his egomania but you can't deny the man's power in entertainment.

XM used to have the Playboy channel as an extra subscription fee...I never even considered it because I couldn't see the point. Playboy on the radio??? I know nothing about the channel offering, but it just seems like an oxy moron.

They offered a lifetime sub for $500? I'd say that's a risky gamble since Satellite radio is in it's infancy. If I had to guess, XM and Sirius will probably end up merging or one will buy the other out eventually. Either that, or additional providers will enter the market. Right now, the cost per sub for Sirius is pretty high and they are hemorraging cash. XM is expected to start turning a profit in late 2006, i believe. But even with that in mind, both are still losing money at the moment and there is stills ignificant risk that one or both providers may not make it longer term.

Opie & Anthony Show, and Ron & Fez show (funniest show I've ever heard in life) on XM 202 for me.
