Does sirius have anything like XM's cinemagic?

I was pretty upset when XM got rid of "Music Lab" and brought in some more "hit" music stations. Though they did bring back Liquid Metal.

join the revolution 1/9/06.

I've had XM since 2003. I like the service, have never had any problems with it, and overall, think it is a good service. What is really funny is that the people that try to tout Sirius use Stern as their one and only argument. Stern sucks--when I was abbout 15, I thought he was funny. the kielbasa queen...stuff like that was edgy and hilarious. Unfortunately, I grew up and he did not. 20 years later, he is just a slimeball perv that doesn't do anything except objectify women as sex objects. perhaps that is why so few subs were gained when he actually made the switch.

4 million people is few? wrong. join the revolution.

From Yahoo Finance

As of December 31, 2005, the company offered 133 channels of programming to listeners, comprising 69 commercial-free music channels, as well as 64 channels of sports, news, talk, entertainment, traffic, weather, and data content. As of the above date, it had 3,316,560 subscribers.

Stern didn't bring in 4 million subscribers. Sirius only has about 4 million total.

Dude, you are freakin' irritating. Your hatred for Stern has apparently driven you into a SERIOUS state of denial. Before Stern, XM was beating Sirius' ass in subscribers, BADLY. I would actually say that Sirius would have been going under pretty soon due to XM's dominance. Now Sirius is a BIG player and has even forced FM radio to change the slogan to FREE FM (fvcking retarded). Someone that is "no longer relevant" doesn't cause MONSTER waves like that. But forget Stern, my brother had XM for 2 years and now got Sirius. He has both services and prefers Sirius. His exact words are, "it seems like Sirius has better programming." Like others have said, the rock and comedy channels are GREAT.

Why am i irritating? because i have backed up every fact I have typed instead of turning this into an emotional flamefest? Again, I typed FACTS about the XM service, including content offerings and subscriber numbers. i did not say that Sirius has not gained market share. I did not say that Stern did not bring in subscribers. I simply used the links provided to show that XM is still leading after Stern made the switch and the "revolution" began. Sirius /= Stern. XM had an offer for Stern and XM turned him down because of the amount of money he wanted. I'm not saying Stern does not have a following. I did say, however, that he did not bring in 4 million subs (FACT!).

I thought you 'grew up?' O&A has virtually the same content as the Stern show. You seem to have contradicted yourself.

You don't think O&A objectify women as sex objects? 'Whip 'em Out Wednesdays' anyone?

Just wanted to show your hypocrisy.

I'm not saying O&A don't have blue humor--but I don't recall hearing O&A point laser pointers at women and point out the flaws as they are standing naked in front of them. They have their moments, but I also admitted that I occasionally would still listen to Stern before he went to Sirius. It always depends on what else is on the radio and the time I was in the car. That doesn't make me a hypocrite if I full admit to having listened to both.

I couldn't care less about Stern. But here is what I do care about:

1) NFL
2) NCAA
3) Fox Sports Radio
4) ESPN Radio
5) Rock/Metal/Techno/Anything not Country

Which is for me? XM or Sirius?

1. Sirius
2. XM has agreements with most major conferences. Sirius has the NCAA championships though.
3. Both, I think. XM has it, I know.
4. Same
5. Both, but I like XM's playlists much better.

You have it completely backwards.

</lurk>

Too true. It's pretty much an undisputed fact that XM's music library is larger than Sirius'; technically songs on Sirius get played more times each week than songs on XM do.

I did all the research on both of these about three months ago...key findings:

What both XM and Sirius have:
--A FAR, FAR better selection of music than lowest-common-denominator FM could ever hope to offer.

What XM has exclusively:
--Opie & Anthony
--MLB
--NHL
--NASCAR (though I believe this is moving to Sirius soon)
--Oprah as of this fall

What Sirius has exclusively:
--Howard Stern
--NFL
--NBA
--NPR

What both DON'T have:
--Good sound quality. Both of them have horrid sound quality, plain and simple. It's fine if you're just listening in the car since all the road noise will mask the flaws. But the moment you hook up your XM/Sirius receiver to a mid- to high-end sound system, ALL the flaws are exposed. I'd say it's 96kbps to 112kps MP3 quality at best; even 128kbps MP3s blow away both of them away in sound quality.

I got XM for the music. I couldn't care less about Stern or O&A and even though I'm an NFL fan, I would just about never use the ability to listen to NFL on the radio. For me, the deciding factor was that XM had better dance channels, which is even more true today since Sirius saw fit to get rid of its current dance hits channel in favor of a mixed, all decades format.

If I'm not mistaken, you can try streaming versions of both of them to see which one you like better. Base it on that, not some incorrect fanboy assessments.

I have both, and if weren't for baseball I would cancel XM in a heartbeat. I do wish that Sirius would add a fungus-type channel though. They have one that comes close, but something is just off when you follow Dead Kennedys with 50cent.

Definitely not. I have just never bothered to browse that site. My sense of humor can be very inappropriate at times--I have just never checked out that site nor do I think Stern is all that funny. It's just my personal preference.

This is all too true. FM sounds better - its past the point that this is now disputable, it is a fact. I suppose one could say it sounds like a 96kbps mp3, as long as we're talking about a 96kbps mp3 of a bad FM broadcast - it really sounds that bad. Which is a big deal or not depending upon how much of a snob you are or how good your speakers are, but be prepared for a downgrade in SQ from FM radio.

Their programming is great though, but the quality is so terrible, as soon as those wifi players get legitmate, I'm gone.

On the XM radio I purchased from the factory in my car, the XM sounds BETTER than the FM in the car. This is true for the radio I have in my Cavalier that I use for work and the minivan we have for the family. If I put in a CD, the CD normally sounds better, but I would expect that to always be the case.

For a radio when driving, I think Satellite blows away the normal FM stations. Maybe I just don't notice the difference because I do not consider myself to be a true audiophile, though. Overall, the average person with an in-dash satellite radio would probably be happy. At least with the XM units, anyway. I have never listened to Sirius in a car at all.

When's the last time you've listened to FM since you got XM? I hadn't listened for the longest time, but recently, XM's SQ has gone so low, that putting on FM was kind of scary. Sure it was hissiser, and there was less stereo separation, but it was on the whole more detailed.

I was going to post my own thread, but followed etiquette and used search, so here it goes:

I got XM free for three months with my new car, and I hate it. I couldn't possibly be any less happy. The comedy channel is the only thing I can stand, and it has commercials all the time - not for Coke or Budweiser, but for ITSELF! It's fvcking ridiculous. If I were actually paying for it, I'd be ticked off. The worst part is, they're for programs that will feature interviews with comics and such. Here's a bit of advice, XM: how about offering one channel that's just comedian after comedian, and then offering another channel - that nobody will ever listen to - that has these stupid interviews.

Plus, the music stations are awful. If you turn on the 90's station, it's one or two hits mixed in with the most random BAD song ever. Now my taste in music is as ecclectic as they come, but I have a limit. They pick the most worthless music. The Hits channels are just as bad, with random music you've never heard of that's too awful to listen to.

/rant

Oh, and let me add the reason why the NFL stations are so good:

I am from STL and living in a different city. I don't get to watch Rams football, and I frequently drive to my home on Sunday. That means I'm on the road, not watching TV. Having the NFL would rule, but I'm not paying that much for it.
