Hi All!

So I recently upgraded my rig from 16GB DDR4 (2x8GB) to 32GB DDR4 (4x8GB).

I am using Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 ram which OC's to 3000 Mhz. My motherboard is the ASUS Prime Z720-A.

When I had the original setup of 16GB, just two sticks of 8GB each, I could use XMP on my motherboard and everything went perfectly. However, after adding two more sticks of 8GB (4x8GB), now XMP is causing post failures and my motherboard is having to start in safe mode. If I turn XMP off, everything runs fine, but my ram is only running at 2133MHz.

Any thoughts on what could be the issue?

Running four sticks of ram is harder than just two, try manually setting the timing for the ram in the bios and upping the voltage on the v. Dimm and possibly the imc.

You added a second 2x8GB kit to your existing one? As in, you didn't buy a brand-spanking-new 4x8GB kit? Chances are their XMP profiles don't actually match up - even if they're the exact same SKU/model no., subtimings will more likely than not be different between the two. Read out the XMP timings (not just MHz and CAS, but as many as you can get) from each kit either in the BIOS or in an application, and with both kits installed adjust timings and clocks manually to match the slowest/highest latency of the two. Should work fine. I wouldn't touch voltage unless this still doesn't work.

Yep haha I did. I just built this rig in January and with my last few rigs XMP did not really exist and I never did ram overclocking. So in the past buying a couple more sticks of the exact same brand/model worked just fine for what I was doing.
