nook color is cool because it's cheap. So the Force Closes are forgiving because... come on... what do you expect out of $200 bucks? But if price is no object, Apple is still light years ahead of the competition right now, in terms of hardware and software!

Weird, on the motorola site you can no longer purchase a xoom. It doesn't even list the price.

http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/12/adobe-flash-player-leaks-for-motorola-xoom-we-go-hands-on-vide/

Beta Flash Player leaks. Super duper laggy and buggy.

If that's any indication of what's to come, I think I'll stick with my phone. Thank you...

Makes me want to buy it. 4g later thing I didnt care about. Not having Flash at launch I did. Now if they can something about video hardware acceleration. I heard it's missing or is not turned on. That's the main reason I want the Galaxy Tab and why I passed on the Nook Color.

Analysts are saying the price needs to drop (duh), they need to slow down production (oversupply), and there's a high return rate (buggy).

Ouch...

With Apple launching the iPad 2 Friday, Motorola Mobility may be forced to scramble to bolster sales of the Xoom tablet.
Jefferies analyst Peter Misek on Friday argued that earnings estimates for Motorola Mobility are too high for the second quarter and 2011 because sales of the Xoom and Atrix haven’t lived up to expectations.
Xoom sales have been underwhelming. While marketing has just started we believe MMI will likely have to cut production if it already has not done so. We believe the device has been a bit buggy and did not meet the magic price point of $500. We believe management knows this and is hurrying development and production of lower cost tablets. Importantly we believe management will likely have to make the painful decision to accept little to no margin initially in order to match iPad 2’s wholesale pricing.
On the Atrix front Misek noted that the BlackBerry Torch is outselling the Atrix at AT&T.
We’ll focus on the Xoom for the moment. Misek’s take on tepid Xoom sales backs up what we’ve been hearing anecdotally. We’ve heard of a handful of folks that have returned the Xoom. The frequent complaint is that the Android 3.0 Honeycomb software is buggy and prone to crashes. Expectations are simply higher given the Xoom’s price.
Trip Chowdhry, an analyst at Global Equities Research, also indicated that Google’s perpetual beta approach doesn’t fly for electronics. Google’s approach works for free services, but expectations are different for a tablet that can run you $800. “The consumer is unforgiving,” said Chowdhry in a research note.
Reviews of the Xoom have also been tepid. The good news is that Xoom prices will come down because Motorola Mobility is going to have to move inventory.
I was impressed with the one I used for a few minutes, not $800 impressed, but impressed...

They posted a second video, running Flash games full screen, and it seems to work a lot better. Something about getting more system resources running just one app.

I think there is a good reason why other tablet makers are not out with Honeycomb yet. It's not ready, IMO. Motorola jumped the gun to be first to market, if they don't even have SD card reader working at launch, that's an indicator of how ready the product is.
Of course if they wait till everyone else releases their tablets, the prices are going to be lower due to competition. I think they are trying to establish their tablet brand and lock in some sales at higher margins by being first, but it's going to damage their brand in the long run if they become known for releasing half baked products.
The whole future 4G upgrade sounds ridiculous. Just drop the price on 3G model by $100 instead of setting that $100 aside for future 4G upgrade costs. Then when 4G is ready, add a 4G model to lineup.

WiFi XOOM @ Staples this month for $599?

http://www.droid-life.com/2011/03/12/staples-ad-for-wifi-only-xoom-shows-march-27th-release/

I'm a little disappointed, I can pick up a16GB iPad 2 with 3G for $30 more...

Actually less, I get 8% off Apple Store hardware... $578 + tax...

Wifi 32gb plus a microSD card versus Wifi 32gb iPad with no expandable memory. No brainer for me.

The comparable iPad yes but say someone wants a Xoom, the lowest entry price is still higher.

Well yes. But the people thinking like that don't care what operating system they have, they want a toy. Just like the people buying the iPad 1 still, they want a tablet to screw around with, they don't care if it is made by Apple or EMachines (most anyways).

Exactly and if they can get a great tablet for less than a competing one then it only helps the iPad. Sure all Android tablets won't be this expensive in the coming months but as of right now, the iPad is still a great deal.

Oh, I know. And I openly can't dispute it, besides the fact that I hate Apple. And if it is true as said in other threads how they invested in the tech and are making it more expensive for other companies, kudos to them for future planning. But the fact remains that people actually invested in technology and care what they are getting, and willing to invest said amount of cash, will inevitably look at what they are getting/giving up with each tablet, and if we're looking at it purely in the form of cost to what they give you, the iPad respectively fails in comparison to the Xoom, if only for the extra expandable memory.

Doesn't the Xoom have 32gb built in + SD card slot?

So that would make a comparable iPad the same price - expansion.

Nice job there.

Irrelevant.

The entry level iPad2 is $100 less than the entry level Xoom.

BMW sells more 3 series than any other car because the barrier of purchase lower.

But... that expandable memory argument would only hold if the SD slot was actually working. Since it doesn't right now, and God knows when Motorola decides to release an update that will fix it, you get more with a comparable iPad.

The iPad is not a great deal if you don't like the OS.

I'll gladly pay $100 more for twice the built-in memory plus the ability to expand that memory with microSD cards (once the Xoom actually supports them). Why would I want to limit myself?

You're comparing apples to oranges.

Don't pay any attention to Patranus, he does the same shit in P&N too.
