What voltage settings should i use for my XP1600? It is an AGOIA. Have not booted the system up, I am waiting on my monitor, keyboard, sound card, NIC, and optical drives. It will be running at 166FSB at the very least, but I might put it up to 171

Fatman42 was saying that my AGOIA should be fine at stock voltage.

If it's AGOGA, AGOIA or AROIA then you're quite likely to have a successful overclock. The voltage you'll use will be the minimum required for stability. Some 1700+ will run at 1830MHz at stock (1.75v) voltage. My own (week 11 AROIA "Y") requires 2.0v to attain stability at that speed. If the system is unstable (i.e. won't run Prime95 all day long, looped without crashing) at a particular voltage, raise it by the minimum. Test again raising the voltage one notch at a time all the while.

Just make sure your PSU and cooler are up to the task, 'cos the heat coming off is going to be significantly increased. Unlocking would be a good idea - you can better use that 1/5 divider to get a perfectly stable system. Even if 11*166 isn't attainable you should be able to get some overclock out of the chip.

I changed from an xp 1700 to a 1600 since then. Because I know that 1743mhz from an XP1600 is stable from other people I know. My cooler is an HHC-001 (seriously sweet HSF, in my opinion the best aside from water cooling) which is rated to cool overclocks up to 2400+. I got a sparkle 350W, since most people said to go with that or the Antec truepower. My PSU and HSF definitely should be up to the task.

Will 1.75 work fine on the AGOIA XP1600? BTW. FatMan if u read this, you said if it's a relatively new chip I should get an AGOIA or AGOGA. Both my chips (XP1700, XP1600 AGOIA) were made in 1999, hehe.

On another topic, how much better is Arctic Silver 3 than Arctic Silver 2 or Arctic Alumina?

yeah just start at the default voltage and only increase it when stability becomes an issue
ohh yeah and don't let the P4 fanboys lie to you (there have been a lot of them around here lately)
yur system is a nice system

same problem here.

I'm using the 1600xp and epox 8kha+

it's pretty stable at 160fsb, vcore is at max, 1.85.

so do I need a vol mod or what? plus, this board doesn't have the 1/5 divider, does that mean it won't post after 166?

oh yea, in bios, do u guys enable the "auto detect dimm/pci clk"?

I can get my 1600+ AROIA stable at 170 fsb without raising voltage at ALL. Anything above my ram cant handle (im running crucial pc-2100), and i have to raise voltage to 1.775 . I also have an AGOIA that doesnt overclock as well. Running on an ABIT KX7-333R right now.

On my Abit KX7-333R, its running at default voltages, memory timings tweaked out, at 166mhz FSB. The chip is an AGOIA Y XP 1600+
Edit: Just did some more testing, was stable up to 169mhz @ default voltage, and here i am purring along at 175x10.5@1.85v

Looks like it has a lot to do with luck of the draw. Hope I get mine up to 171. Thanks for the feedback.

Interesting coincidence (seeing this thread on the first page)... I just set up my system, a 1600+ @ 166 fsb, and came on here to check to see what others were getting for load temps while I let prime95 do its thing. I'm running at default voltage as well... haven't tweaked the memory yet, but will soon, since I went ahead and got the Corsair PC3000... I'm sure it'll be able to handle anything I throw at it.

I'm on an Epox 8K3A+, and my heatsink is a Thermalright AX-7. The chip is, I believe, an AGOIA...possibly an AGOGA. I'm tempted to unlock the processor and see how far I can push this thing, but I'm pretty satisfied with 2100+ speeds out of a $60 chip.

It looks like I'm hovering around 50* C under load... how's that compare with everyone else?

I think he's mistakingly refering to the copyright date on them instead of the 4 digit manufacturing date that is right after the stepping.

Well I do not remember where the date is, it probably was what DAPUNISHER said.

Booty, tell me how it goes with your sys.
