Hello all. I have an Asus A&V266E motherboard and a recently purchased XP 2100+ processor. I have the 1011 version bios installed (which should support identification of
the 2100). When I start up the system and go into the bios settings screen, the motherboard
identifies the processor as a 2000+ and sets the multiplier to 20x and the FSB to 100.
I have the option to make manual changes to the multiplier and FSB and I set them to
13x with a 133 FSB which I believe is the setting for 1.767 GHz...the normal speed of
the processor. When I restart I cannot get it to post. If I shut down and restart again, the
settings default back to 20x with a 100FSB telling me the processor is running at 2.0 GHz.
Interestingly enough it runs fine with these settings. I'm running Debian Linux without
any difficulties at all, including overheating. I've reset the CMOS with no changes. The
system time is stable telling me the motherboard battery is probably good. The motherboard
only accepts this processor with a bios upgrade...in other words, the option to manually set
the jumpers on the board will not work because the jumpers only allow a 10x multiplier
max. Will running the processor with these settings do damage? It seems insane to have
a 20x multiplier...if it will cause a problem any idea on what I can do to make the
necessary changes to the multiplier? Thanks very much for any advice.
