Greetings all,

I have a long question so thanks in advance for any help. A friend plugged his iPhone into his USB port on his ancient Presaro SR1110NX to update the iOS and got "USB port exceeded power limit". His USB mouse stopped working so he reset the computer. It booted up then stopped working so he brought it to me to try and fix. I couldn't even get it to boot now, the Power light just flashes, so I swapped out the 250W power supply for a 550W one. Now it powers up, but no boot, no POST beeps, etc... The HD is OK, so I cloned it with Acronis for safety sake, now I am attempting to swap the clone into another P4 box I had lying around. I booted off an XP home upgrade disc to try and repair the Windows installation. That seemed to work fine and it proceeded to 'fix' the Windows installation. It loaded all the XP files and then rebooted, but now it is stuck at the Windows XP bootup screen with the words, "Please Wait" with the mouse cursor as an hourglass. But it's been an hour now, so I don't think all the waiting in the world is gonna matter...

Any ideas out there?

Have you reseated all the cards and ram? When you say reset, do you mean reset the BIOS?

He reset by turning off the machine. I have tried to reseat all the cards and ram as well. No dice.

Try resetting the BIOS.

I popped out the battery and jumpered the reset pins, no dice

Try booting the machine from a Linux live CD to see if the hardware works independently of Windows. Doing this will tell you if you have a hardware fault.

I am calling it, this thing is toast, I will salvage the PC3200 RAM, my 550W PSU, and call it a day...
