XP Home?

I know home is missing alot of the anmin tools but is is missin any network goodies..

Ie i wanna buy some dells for use at work.. they have xp home...
they are for lookin at prints and docs on the floor.. this is the only use they will get.

they have to be able to support loggin in to our win2k server (domain)

I guess the question is.. doe xphome support this kind of login?

They sure will. With the home edition, security over the network is possible, but you cant prevent someone from logging directly into the computer where the files are physically stored.

You can make user accounts on the domain for the users that will be loggin in from the XP home machines, but the xp home machines cannot be joined to the domain.

No files are stored on these machines so no issue there..

By not being joined to the domain, does that mean they are not viewable in explorer
or network security functions are not useable on these machines..

we have an exchange server, a database, an intranet webserver, etc.
norton anivirus that is deployed from 2k sever

I guess i am trying to determine what functionality is gonna lost .

They will work, but users will not be able to use their domain logins, nor will you be able to remotely manage the computers.

If you are using a Windows domain environment, I would recommend purchasing XP Professional.
