XP Install errors

Any answers to this yet? I spent 6 hours trying to load XP last night. First from scratch, then on top of 98SE. And also tried two different disks (retail home upgrade, and full xp pro).
Kept getting copy errors. (could not copy ks.sys was the first to come up).
I even tried copying all the files to the HDD first in DOS, but that took an hour, and still didn't work.

I'll try it again tonight with a different cd-rom drive.

Running dual p3-900's on a vp-6

Any ideas?

did you try this at dos prompt

fdisk/mbr ?

i do it three times as this usually gets rid of those errors

also try repartitioning reformating harddrive and using a boot disk (not cdrom) from

HEREand try that if no cdrw drive.if you do have cdrw drive then

look into that site also as they do have cdrom boot programs for xp also.

this should work and hope it helps

also if those are burned copies they may be bad or readable in cdrw only

just a thought ! good luck please note the link is different for home and xp so read carefully

When you were installing it as a stand alone was your hard drive partitioned?

If you want a dual booting system then you will need to have a partition on the hard drive.
First you will have to install the Win 98/ME or 2000. Once that has installed,
then you can install the XP onto the other partition. On the partition that you install the
XP on, you do not need to format it, XP installation will prompt you to do that.

To install on top of 98/ME this one is touchie. I have done it both ways, I have had problems
with both. Each time ended up performing FDisk- re formating the drive. I tested each sector
on the HD, re partitioned it and now it runs great.......

I put a different (older) cd-rom drive in, and it worked fine...
The first cd-rom was a 40x samsung, and worked fine for win98se install, and win2k install, but on both retail and burned versions of XP there were certain files it couldn't copy.
