Well i was fooling around with dual booting Windows XP and Mac OSX 10.4.8....and ended up screwing up my MBR and boot.ini file beyond repair...so i decided to give up and just reinstall a fresh copy of XP.
well that was all good i got it installed and back up to par...when i started to notice that the enage time for the HD was extrmley slow...it would make a little beep/click spin up and load whatever i clicked on..then spin back down...and it was extremley annoying...i was hoping the HD was not gone already....becuase i just bought it a few weeks prior from a member here on the board..
anyways i could not seem to find what the problem was...so i left it and came back to it the next day...well then my computer would boot but with no video...and i had no idea why...finally the computer wouldnt boot at all..just start and spin the fans for about 2 seconds then die....well i came to the conclusion that it was my powersupply....so i ran to a local computer guy becuase i was desperate and bought a Sparkle 300W ATX PSU for $30 brand new....and i hooked this all up and then booted to windows...everything went well....until it went to boot windows..and it automatically ran the CHKDSK utility....which was fine until it got to the second part where it started orphaning files...i timed it and it orphaned files STRAIGHT for 14 minutes before CHKDSK finished...then when i booted windows i had massive amounts of errors and missing files and such...and i just said screw it i will just do a freh install now that i got a new PSU in.(the new PSU also solved the HD issue i noticed when i was in windows)
so i threw the XP disk in and started the install...everything went well i picked my partition and it formated in NTFS and then installed...then came to the part where it reboots...so i let it reboot and then it boots up shows the windows XP screen for about 6 seconds and then comes up with a blue screen of death which reads "Unmountable Boot Volume"
so i was like great......i thought maybe something went wrong so i tried another install of XP...but i got the same error....so then i booted to recovery console ran the "FIXBOOT" command...and it says it fixed it succesfuly....i also ran CHKDSK and it cant seem to find any errors OR bad sectors....but i still get the error...i also tried the FIXMBR(master boot record) command...and no luck with it either.
i am out of things to try..and was wondering if you guys had any insight?...i do believe the Unmountable boot Error means the boot.ini file is corrupt...but if FIXBOOT doesnt fix it how else can i replace just the boot.ini file?
