XP Installing woes

Hey Guyz,

Thanks to everyone for help last night with my booting issue. Got that resolved, apparently the heatsink for the processor wasnt installed properly and therefore i was running into all sorts of trouble. I'm over that hurdle this time around but now i have another issue. I am trying to install Windows XP on this system. It goes through everything correctly and only in the last part where is says 'Saving....." it gives me the BSOD. Tried it twice and the same thing is happening!!

My config once again is
Ahtlon XP 1600+
MSI KG7N2-L
DDR PC2100 Crucial 256 MB - 32MB (for shared VGA)
20GB IBM 75GXP
8X Plextor Drive
(Everything else is onboard since this is the nforce2)

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! my temps are between 55- 60C just for reference

I went through that last week and I though maybe it was a bad mem stick but turned out later that it was a bad mem slot on the mobo (#3 slot)... not saying this is what is wrong or maybe wrong with yours but it just feels better getting the frustration out by typing this. Check all your connections and then recheck them again. I am not much help on these matters but I hope you find it soon. Good Luck.

P.S. My puter would go BSOD and give me different error messages every time...

I too vote for the bad memory cause. the only times i've run errors during a windows install it has been on bad memory. Oh... actually i had a bad hdd once too.

I don't agree... I have run into windows installation errors for a number of reasons, none of which have been bad hardware. driver conflicts... yes; conflicts during upgrades... yes, etc.

My most recent experience with this was when I got my NForce2 mobo. Windows generally freaks out when you install a new mobo without reinstalling, but XP took this to an extreme. I installed the mobo and booted up the system... It never made it into Windows without rebooting over and over again, so I decided to reinstall (without formatting). the install seemed to go normally until it got to the point of detecting devices, then boom. Reboot, reboot, reboot. Once I formatted the drive all was well.

I would say it's some type of hardward thats giving you the BSOD if you are doing a fresh load with a full format
try jumpering the CMOS so it resets
