XP Login-Screen, New E-Mail Alert..

I dont know what to call it.. but I've seen it around, most recently here: clicky!.

I looks like it checks the E-Mail account of a specific user and reports the number of new messages under the username on the XP login screen. Considering I have 4 people that use one computer with 4 accounts, something like this could come in handy.. anyone know what it is, and where I can find it?

if you fresh install xp, it should have worked automatically. but if not, enable it using TweakUI. depedending on the LogonUI you use, you may or may not see this feature because the text may blend into the background.

You guys dont seem to get it, I want the program that shows how many new e-mails a user has. Look at the link, below one of the user accounts it says 673 unread mail messages.

I've seen this on at least 10 other logon screens, I want the program!!

Im already using the logon screen silly!

Go to Control Panel - User Accounts and change the way you log on and off...

So if I do that.. which I already have.. (I've been using XP logon screen since about two days after XP went gold back in september) XP will now magically login to all my users e-mail accounts and check for new e-mails? Why hasnt it done it yet?

Are the other users showing on your log-in screen? You need to change the other accounts so they appear with yours on the log-in screen...

Agh!!! IM using the XP logon screen. Its fine! Its dandy!!




I WANT THE PROGRAM, THAT SHOWS HOW MANY NEW E-MAILS A USER HAS IN THEIR E-MAIL BOX WITHOUT HAVING TO LOG IN..

Mine does that automatically Daz, but see, it doesn't check your email. That happens if you log off when you have your email open with your messages unread. Hope that helps you some.

Usually AT people are knowlege-able about these things..

I know it works if you use Outlook Express as your e-mail client, but I haven't found a way to get Outlook XP to report the number of e-mails on the logon screen....

Hmm.. Ok.

I figured it was a third party program.. If you had left your e-mail client open though.. wouldnt it say "1 Program Running" under the "2 unread mail messages"??

I think you need to sign up for MS pasport serivice to get that. My mom has it working on her XP box, and she is signed up for pasport. She is also using Office XP for the e-mail client. Has for me, I don't have that feature showing, but then again i never siged up for passport either. It is a feature in windows XP that for sure.

Ok, it doesnt work with Outlook XP (2002)... for me yet..

I have a passport, but where do I put the passport info in Outlook XP?

AFAIK, it only works for hotmail. Has something to do with windows messenger checking your hotmail in the background.

Ok Flash.. that must be with Outlook Express exclusivly.. Because I cant log off if Outlook XP (2002) is running. It says "Please close all microsoft programs before shutting down the system"

It works for outlook 2002 but it works because I don't log out but I "switch users". If you switch users then it will show how many emails you have unread.

I am using Outlook 2k, not express, and it works for me just fine when I choose Log Off - Switch User.
