Getting a new Samsung F3 1TB sent to me. Thinking of starting over with Windows 7 Pro 32bit. My scanner finally has a Window 7 driver released last month.

Anyone make the switch and regret it?

I am keeping my current drive handy so I can always go back to what I had.

No regrets on my end and I have been using Win7 64-bit since the beta days (on Ultimate right now).

Just a FYI, Win7 may have had a driver for the scanner.

No one had been able to get it to work. It was my 11x17 scanner so I wasn't about to go out and replace it over an OS change

I figure I saved $50 or more with my Win7 x32 installation (versus x64). I'd forgotten about my Canon LIDE 20 scanner, but I had need of it the other day. No driver built into Win7, but Canon has a x32 (no x64) Win7 driver for it on their support site.

As far as Win7 itself, it's been superb. Except that IE 8 windows occasionally just disappear while opening.

I miss my Fiat 500 (circa 1962) but now I drive an SUV.

Looks like you can have your FIAT 500 back!

"Fiat previewed the all new 500 in March 2007 - exactly 50 years after the first Fiat 500 was presented. The design of the new 2007 Fiat 500 is based on the 2004 Fiat Trepiuno concept. This car features a distinctive retro-look just like the Volkswagen New Beetle and BMW MINI but is substantially cheaper than those cars, with a starting price of €10,500 (similar to how the original Fiat 500 was cheaper than the Volkswagen Beetle and Austin Mini). Fiat shares the underpinnings of the new 500 with Ford for the 2009 Ford Ka. Production takes place in Fiat facilities in Tychy, Poland, and was scheduled for mid 2007, with commercial debut in September 2007."

LOL, 10000 Euro, mine was pre-owned for $300.

However at time I was Not residing in the New York Try State area. I would be afraid to Drive a FIAT 500 on the L.I.E. among the trailers.

OP.

In case you did not understand it.

XP = FIAT 500

Win 7 = My current agile SUV.

Actually as we speak I am busy keeping an eye on the second monitor that is connected to the video output of a new HP Mini. Uninstalling the factory installed XP, and installing Win 7 instead.

I have ran win7. Just not for my main pc.

So I take you got a taste of it but never used it enough to be convinced?

I don't notice any ill-effects. I do notice much smoother operation in general, and I have always kept my system in top shape during my xp days (service tweaks, minimal auto-start programs, defrag, etc). Vista/7 always felt smooth enough to take less effort to manage, though some of this is done automatically in the background (defrag, for instance). Dunno, could be partly due to much improved hardware these days, but I am willing to trust it's the superfetch doing its job as it should.

If you ever needed anything so terribly outdated / deserted that it absolutely requires XP, then you always have virtualbox to fall back onto (nlite the xp install for even better experience). I usually keep one around to install **certain unwanted apps that I hate but need** anyway, so it all works out.

Then there is the whole interface thing with the dock-like taskbar and the awesome preview feature. Oh yeah, and 7 does look prettier

I don't need eye candy in an OS. XP is just comfortable now. However, since I work in IS/IT and directly support both hardware and software I need to keep current.

My father just made the switch which has prompted me. He has dealt with BSOD's in Win 7 though as well as others.

I downloaded the Tweak Guide for it and will read it while my new HD for the install comes.

I stayed on DOS forever and even when Windows 95 and 98 were in I used command prompts for everything so I'm not one that likes to switch OS's if I'm comfortable with one. I thought XP was great compared to 95/98 and Win 7 is as big an improvement over XP as XP was over 98. As far as I'm concerned there's no reason to be on XP these days and I cry inside when I use it

One other thing is Vista drivers work with Win7 so if your scanner has a 64-bit Vista driver you could use it with 64-bit Win7 if you wanted to.
