Yeah, they're shafting us now. It went up to $30 like a year and a half ago, now they're all up to $79. I couldn't even get it last quarter since they didn't have any.

I love the little contracts you get to sign, and the note at the end that says you have to remove this software if you stop enrolling at that university. I'm sure that's quite effective! As for my part, going to UT has afforded me Windows XP, Office XP, Office 2003, and Visual Studio .NET for the $6-per cd mentioned above.

At UCR (University of California, Riverside) if you are a Computer Science major... you can go to the Systems office and ask for a Windows Home/Pro XP licence (key) which is good for 10 computers, for free.

I did that last year at UMass, but had more problems with the isos than I care to admit. Almost every time I downloaded it it had an error, nice thing to find out when you are installing.

How do you get a subscribers/membership ID? I'm presuming you need to get it from your school......who do you need to talk to?

MD.
From what I understand, the school is supposed to give downloads. Its all kinda vague on the MS site. And while its cool that my school is listed as a member of MSDNAA I have no idea who to talk to get copies of stuff heh. It could be computer engineering dept, or computer science dept, or both and I have a feeling that anyone I ask won't know wtf I'm talking about.

I'm a student at Mercer in Macon and they use some outside company to handle student software purchases, but it is around $75 for XP.

LOL, not to crap on those that like MS... but look the similarities in the business practices of the following two businesses:

1. Drug dealer gives a kid free drugs to get him hooked and screws up his life.

2. Bill gives University Students (future high wage earners) free software, gets them hooked on it and screws them down the road on high software costs.

Already graduated, but still have friends/family in school (Southern California). Can anyone confirm discounted software at any of the following schools:

- San Diego State
- USC
- University of Redlands
- Long Beach State
- Cal State Fullerton

Not exactly.. Just about everyone uses Windows and Microsoft products as it is.. It's more like:

1. Parents give kid a car, and they are dependent on cars (expensive) for life... Everyone has a car... everyone has a computer....

The $60 or $80 or whatever it is at the Cal State Universities is confirmed at all of them. They signed a calstate wide (ALL cal states) licensing agreement with MS.
