XP repair issue..

I had to do a repair on my XP system and now the RASMAN will not load.
I try to start it manually under the services menu and I get an Error 5 access denied.
This happens even if I am logged in as administrator.

All devices on the system seem to work fine except the modem. I shows that it is installed.
Lists it in the device manager but when I try to launch my dial up I get a message telling me I
have no modem installed. I go to the modem configuration in the control panel and it shows
my modem, and passed the diag. I am using an external modem. Courier V. Everything.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried removing it from device manager, rebooting and reinstalling it? It could have gone south at the same time your os did--sorry.

Yes I did remove it from the device manager.
I even disconnected it from the system. When I hooked it back up
the system detected the modem and loaded the drivers.

Now the darn thing will not even do a defrag.. agghhhh...

I really do not want to reload the OS.. But looks like I will have to...

I have found the repair function of XP to be far from reliable...it's a damn pain having to do a reinstall but at least everything will be fresh on your system, all useless system files taking up space gone etc...
