Anyone else using SP2 no longer capable of using the windows update site or running disk defrag?

I am using sp2 rc1 and have had no problems with anything. I have used automatic updates and just tried to defrag and it all seems to work fine. Make sure your using rc1 from Microsoft and not some OTHER version you might have found some other place. A lot of those OTHER versions are stripped.

I was running a pre-RC beta for a couple months and I encountered that problem w/the update. I didn't try to defrag.

I removed it and installed the current RC version and I get the same problem.

Sp2 does not use the V4 update site. You have to be in the v5 beta to get the updates for sp2.

i installed sp2 and it killed my system i think it was a javascript blocking issue and windows update uses javva to run its siteand as mcafee wouldnt work all of my active x apps broke. had to re-install xp"again"

SP2 has some problems if you are running a 64-bit system. I have it on all three of my systems, and it works perfectly - they are all 32-bit and I don't play games.

It gets along just fine with existing security systems, and it's built in Firewall co-exists nicely. Updates were about 7 in the first two months - but they now seem to have abated pending release of RC2.

For my use and purposes, I can live with RC1.

And, no problems at all with optimization/defrag. I do that frequently using PerfectDisk by Raxco.

I figured out my problem. I did grab SP 2 rc1 from microsoft. My problem is that with SP2 installed some services that weren't necassary before are now required for some simple things to work, IE: windowsupdate and defrag. So now all my services are set back to xp defaults and everything works fine with SP2 now.
