XP Shutdown Problem >Problem Fixed!<

I have a problem that has developed on 2 of my XP systems. The problem is identical on both. On shut down, I keep getting a small screen the says ?ctfmon.exe is still running and needs to be shut down?. I click ok, the program trys to shut down and then I get ?this program is not responding? I then have the option of ?close? or ?wait?. I can only choose ?close? to continue. That block disappears then I get the same sequence and screen for ?explorer.exe needs to shut down?, then ?this program is not responding?. I choose close and then the computer shuts down as normal.
I am not real sure what these two services are. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

If you have, Bacillus might want you to update your driver to the lastest creative sound card.

I'm having same issue from time to time , I don't have creative sound card on my system..........

Sounds like I'm not the only one with this problem. I will go update my soundcard driver to get that out of the equation. Thank you, Suki.

No problem, this is kinda like deja'vue for me. I got called into my purchasing department today for this exact same problem on a new dell system that they just installed. CTFMON was hanging the shutdown. I searched on goggle and came up with the link. I'll have to wait till tomorrow when I get in to see if that will fix it also. Hope it works.

thx jenniferx, i think i know where i can go about deleting cftmon.exe on my computer.. i think cftmon.exe might be the cause for my long system shutdown time..

microsoft recommends against deleting ctfmon.exe, instead they give directions on removing it properly.
