Has anybody else experienced this and/or have a fix?
I recently installed SP3 on two groups of machines.
In group one, all identical machines with the same software image on them, several machines wound up with broken print drivers of various HP deskjet models. In each case, you just get a message that the attempt to print failed due to a configuration problem (it never spools or anything, the error pops up instantly). It's not a particular model or driver. It's happened to machines with a 940c, 5550, and 5650's, while others with those same printers did not encounter the error.
In each case, I can use a different print driver and everything is fine. But cannot use the printer driver that has developed the problem. Uninstalling it completely and reinstalling does not fix it. Using a different version of the driver and telling it to replace the existing doesn't fix it. Removing the port in question and reinstalling does nothing. Changing to ANY other print driver besides the one that initially developed the problem makes it go away. Note that this only happened to a couple of machines...other identical machines with the same printer went off without a hitch.
The second group is a computer lab of also identical machines with identical images. In this case they all have a Dell 5110cn printer with both PCL and PS drivers installed. In this entire lab, every machine developed this exact same error with only the PS driver. The PCL driver works perfectly fine.
In the case of the few machines that developed the issue with various HP printers, I just made a new image with SP3 from a machine that didn't develop the problem to fix them.
Not as easily done in the lab since it happened to each machine though. Besides, I'd like to figure out how to solve the problem with out reimaging for future instances anyway.
