I just did a slipstream install of SP3 and everything went well. However, I can't seem to find IE7 for SP3 anywhere. Its not listing on Windows Update and the manual download page specifies SP2.

Anybody know if Internet Explorer 7 will be released for SP3 on Windows Update or otherwise?

Thanks,
RA

EDIT: Nevermind...just went on Windows Update again and saw that it is now listed. Wasn't there earlier. Guess they put it up today since SP3 officially comes out today.

So was that a RC that everybody installed? The KB number in the filename matches a KB number of a release candidate....

I believe it was a RC. However, some things I've read suggest that it was the RC that became the official RTM, i.e. they were identical. Some people, however, have installed the true RTM, as MS made it available to MSDN subscribers. I would imagine that MS will release a patch for people who have already installed SP3, whether the RTM or an identical RC.

Reading a few posts in the technet forums and it seems build 5512 is the version that was released to a few OEMs and was never intended to be the version released today 9or supposed to be released).

5512 is the RTM according to TechNet. The discovery of the issue with Microsoft Dynamics RMS seems to be the cause for the delay, regardless of what Microsoft is now saying. Seems also to be the cause of another delay with Vista SP1.

Oh great. I installed SP3 yesterday. Now I have to use system restore and revert my system back to SP2.

I will never be a guinea pig for M$ again. Once SP3 does come out for retail, I'll wait a month or so for them to fix the bugs and glitches.

What's this Microsoft Dynamic RMS anyways?

Windows Update was to have gotten SP3 today - but Microsoft delayed it until they can put in a filter to prevent some of their business systems from getting SP3 - they have an incompatibility problem.

This almost like watching grass grow.

But, a couple more days won't hurt a thing.

I downloaded SP3 last night from the Microsoft Downloads link given earlier. I didn't want to wait until today, when their servers would be trampled.

I installed SP3 on two client PCs without apparent issue. It appears to have fixed the printing problem that they'd been having with one particular printer (Minolta QMS 3100, with, apparently, the world's worst drivers).

It's not fair to blame Microsoft when you had the choice and decided to download an uncertified version from another source.

did a fresh Nlite install on my moms laptop. Everything seems to be working great (Which is good, my moms laptop has needed to be redone for a while now)

That's true. That's why I decided to keep SP3 on one of the three computers that I installed it on. I wasn't getting any problems with SP3 and I might just reinstall it back into the other two computers again.

However, did anyone feel that their computer was a bit slower after they installed SP3?

Here's the deal with XP SP3's delay.

"In the last few days, we have uncovered a compatibility issue between Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) and both Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). In order to make sure customers have the best possible experience, we have decided to delay releasing Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) to the web.

To help protect customers, we plan to put filtering in place shortly to prevent Windows Update from offering both service packs to systems running Microsoft Dynamics RMS. Once filtering is in place, we expect to release Windows XP SP3 to the web."

I consider this final.....I have NEVER seen a computer running MS dynamic RMS software in all my years. And i'll bet that not 1 person on this whole forum is using that software either.

This is a non-issue for 99.999% of the population

InlineFive, well that's not exactly true. Microsoft did release SP3 to manufacturing. The official announcement was on their MSDN forums. Microsoft even had the service pack on their servers for public download unofficially.

From that news.com article it sounds like Microsoft isn't going to change SP3. They're just waiting until they get the Windows Update filter set up so people who have the incompatible software won't get SP3. The version that was released to manufacturing and many already downloaded will still be the one given out by Microsoft officially. A patch to SP3 that will fix the incompatibility with Microsoft Dynamics RMS will come later.

... and a stupid reason for microsoft to delay sP3 because it is manual installation.

As noted, RMS installs represent only a TINY fraction of PCs out there. That it took this long to find the Vista SP1 incompatibility is evidence of that. Since there are MANY more XP boxes in businesses than Vista (especially in the smaller businesses that would use RMS), this XP SP3 release probably finally hit some RMS-bearing PCs.

The way I read these announcements is that SP3 is FINISHED. It won't be changed. Patches will be issued to fix individual compatibility problems.

Here's a direct download from M$ if anyone is interested, you know it's legit. I haven't installed it, I'm using 3311, but I guess this is build 5512.
http://www.download.windowsupd...d6666603ec857f4095.exe . It shows as 316mb instead of the 315mb of RC2 Refresh. But both still say the same 6.2.0029.0 (SRV03_QFE.031113-0918) for the file version.

I still haven't heard any word on when they are going to finally release it. That RMS BS is.........BS. They should let the 99.999999999999% of us that have nothing to do with RMS download it, and just simply put a warning on the page for those "5 people" using RMS. I bet there's more to it than that, something else wrong with it they aren't talking about.

I know there is a serious spontaneous rebooting issue that many are having, I'm having it, but it didn't start until about a week after I installed SP3. They said to replace gdi32.dll with an older version, and I did, with disastrous results. It rendered my PC totally useless, it would not boot at all. I was about to have to reformat then I remember about the file I changed (several hours had passed since I replaced the file and restarted so I had forgotten about it). Luckily in DOS I was able to rename the current one and then rename the original file back to gdi32.dll and it booted ok. Of course not after rebooting on its own a few times!

I haven't heard about any fix for this other than what I did (which obviously doesn't work for all), nor any patch for it. Hopefully they are working on that and it will be fixed.

This is the only SP3 thread here I see so I guess I'll ask this here since all of you are using it.

Why is SP3 duplicating all .dbx files when you compact folders in OE? Twice now when I've compacted folders, a "copying file........." dialog pops up for every single email folder! Then when I look in the Recycle bin, every one of my email folders is in it but with a .bak extension! It appears SP3 is duplicating, copying, all of your dbx files but for what reason? I never saw this on SP2. Apparently this is something new in SP3, have any of you noticed it? Due to the history of XP destroying your emails during a compact, it could be this is a new method of doing so you (it) can recover your emails when it crashes during a compact.
