My first clean install with slipstreamed SP3 disc - woot!

The only out-standing priority or recommended updates were Malicious Software Removal Tool, Genuine Advantage, WMP11, Windows Media Runtime 9.5 and 11, Root Certificates, and the NET Framework stuff.

I would liked to have seen MS integrate NETFX 1.1 at a minimum, preferrably 2.0 SP1. Strangely, MSIE 7.0 is not showing as an available update, not even recommended.

BSOD on my system as well.
Are you guys joking about the BSODs? If you are using the RTM version of SP3, and it's causing as many BSODs as indicated here, then there's big problems ahead...

Safe Mode was the only way (short of completely uninstalling several anti-virus/anti-malware programs) that I could complete the installation for several of the SP3 Beta versions. So that's how I installed SP3 Final, which completed without problem.

I wasn't aware that a SP could be installed via safe mode. Yes my system is blue screen hosed just like Slug's. Can't get into safe mode either, the same BSOD appears. Had to make a second windows installation to get all my data off of it.

4 systems updated so far from SP2. All running fine.

All systems were ones in day to day use and all clean from viruses and spyware. (sweeps were made before SP installation)

I installed SP3 in Windows (not safe mode) just disabled the anti virus on each rig.

I'll be doing a 5th one today, but so far haven't encountered any major hiccups.

So far, installed it onto about 6 pc's, no bsod's and no issues to report. Just a lot less updates to do!

Any one notice/feel anything different? Just got around to installing this (wanted to have ample time to troubleshoot stuff in case something went wrong) and it really does look like what was promised - a hotfix rollup.

Anyone see any new settings/tools/menus etc.?

Are you not able to resolve the host name?

Not to be 5 mins late to the party here, but when I'm extracting from the executable using 7-zip, it warns me a bunch of the files are broken. I have extracted this way from many other SP's, never seen this. Is your file still good?

Edit: same thing happens with the latest ms link...odd

I just used winrar to open my copy, opened fine. Also had winrar "test" it, and it reported no errors.

I also just grabbed the m$ sp that Forummaster linked to. The md5sum on it DOES match the RTM version.

No drama here. Just time consuming... what with the backup, install, minor adjustments, defrag, and yet 'nutha backup. Oh, and integrating with my Rescue/PE disc.

Wee tip: put the uninstall folder on a diff'rent volume so it does not clutter up the bootsy with half a GB of flotsam which can prolly be deleted shortly but at least shan't weigh down images in the meantime. Also, if you do like to keep things trim then previous hotfix uninstallers can be deleted first -I have generally done this routinely after being sassified everthing was kosher and before a bunch of new updates so the crap doesn't build up too much.

Also, I happened to extract the SP to 'nutha drive so it prolly installed a li'l quicker. Maybe it's an olde school mentality but I like critical updates to be as quick as possible just in case there is a power failure or such as.

Rolled out another successful SP3 install yesterday.
So far everythings been painless and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend people install it.

At work we've decided not to touch Vista for at least another year, so SP3 will tide us over nicely.

I downloaded the MS official version using the above link and put it on a share on a client's server. I've got to upgrade two or three XP boxes there tomorrow to (hopefully) fix a complex printing issue that needs a hotfix contained in XP SP3. I've got my fingers crossed. Luckily we implemented a Windows Home Server in that office last week, so we have multiple images of each of their desktop PCs.

I'll try the link from the MS Update site and see how it goes. If I get another fubar'd system out of it, I'll hold off for another month.
