XP start problem

XP won't start. Splash screen, then message that I'm missing odbc32.dll and msgnia.dll. I get them from another system onto a floppy. Then I run Recovery from the xp install cd. But when I try to copy the files, I'm told that access is denied. In fact I can't change or look at any directory or file on c:

Any ideas on how I can get up and running?

try running a repair install. load up the xp disc, let it check your janx, then when it first asks you if you want to repair, don't do it. when it shows you what file systems are currently installed, then hit R to repair it.

It doesn't even get to that point...

I fired up an old system and moved the drive there. Although I hear it spin up, it doesn't show anywhere.
If i make it the primary drive, it just goes through the xp splash scren, then tells me i'm missing the dll files, and reboots.

Any other suggestions? I really, really need some recent data on the disk.
