XP/Vista Network possible?

just found out that my isp assigned differend subnetmasks for both computers
my wifes is 255.255.254.0 and mine is 255.255.255.0
seems vista don't like that ??

can't find a way to change that because my isp uses dhcp

This starts really to get on my nerves
I managed to define a static ip to the other computer with the right subnetmask and everything but the result is the same
I boot in XP and everything works fine
I boot in Vista and the other computer only shows in the networkmap and i can ping the ip , but it doesn't show in the network list
Also my computer don't show in the Xp computer network
Both computers are on the same workgroup (workgroup)
LLTD is installed on the XP computer and shows in the network protocols for that NIC
Tried switching both firewalls off with no result
Only thing installed in f-prot antivirus , but that has no firewall capabilities

I still should be able to see each computer from the other one ,even if they don't allow access the icon should show up right ??

right now i have to leave my game and boot into xp if my wife wants to print something , its very annoing

Well for who still reads this

One small victory
I installed netbeui on the xp machine and set it to primary sharing protocol
I can see the vista computer and access the files and printer now
The Xp computer still don't show up on the vista network list , only on the network map
How odd is that lol

I have a home built Visa Home Premium rig and my wife has a Dell XP Pro laptop.
I have a Network set up with Satellite and an SMC wireless router.
I got tired of set up/connection issues and I now use Network Magic to manage it.
I paid 30 or 40 bucks for 5 licenses and haven't had any problems since.
They have a trial version or at least they used to.

Yesterday i managed to get everything working
on both computers i gave the guest account full access and suddenly the xp computer gave access
Before it could not even be found , all i did was give the guest account full access to the shared folders after i saw on the vista computer that the xp computer was connected as guest to one of my shares

A somewhat related question if I may....

I have my Vista and XP PC's talking to each other... no problem there.

However, when my XP PC tries to access the share on the Vista PC it's sloooooooow.... sometimes times out, sometimes it works, albeit slowly.

It seems, although with only minimal testing, Vista accessing the XP's share works just fine.

Anyone have any suggestions?

somehow my isp changed the ip of my wifes computer and the 2 computers refuse to see eachother again

its totally impossible to either of the computers

the network map on the vista computer shows the xp computer , but it doesn't show in the network list

the vista computer doesn't show in the network list of the xp compuater either

i tried network magic but it complains i need a router for it , and since i use a switch and both computers have their own ip provided by my isp this program don't work for me
