XP will not shut down

my friends computer is doing the looping gig i know i read it some where what it was but i can't fing it. i tried changing the video drivers thinking it was that but it wasn't any advise.....thanks

You haven't listed any hardware or operating system. No mind readers here.

In general, you can assume that the operating system encounters an error on shutdown, at which point it reboots. If its XP, turn off "automatically reboot" and see what the blue screen says.

kick it, or unplug it, it'll shut down, your just not trying hard enough

Sorry he has an amd 1gig with 40gig maxtor 512mb ram geforce 2mx i don't know what motherboard with XP pro when he hits the shutdown button it shuts down but boots right up again.i read on a forum that some of the nvidia drivers would do that so i changet the video drivers for him and that didn't work..

happened to me too w/ win xp home. Gotta reformat I know it sucks dude, it only got worse for me, so I suggest just reformat w/o wasting anymore time.
