Xp with Cel 550/128?

How much pain will I be in for if I install XP with a celeron 366@550 and 128 megs? Would it be more or less than Win2K? It took me hours to install Win98 & drivers on this one computer, and I have to do it again (image corrupted), and I'm thinking that XP will take care of all the drivers for me. I'll definitely be turning off all of the animations and bells and whistles.

Wouldn't with only 128 Megs RAM. Bumping to 256 will help tremendously...

Well, I upgraded to XP on my grandmom's computer which is a Celeron 400 (I know a difference, but not too much) and I did upgrade her RAM from 64MB to 192MB and she loves it. No sluggishness at all (With all the eye candy)

Which motherboard are you using? It appears that you're using a bx motherboard (i.e., abit bm6, zm6 type). You should be fine as I setup my 366@583 (dual cpu setup on a bp6) and it runs fine. You're lacking a littel in RAM (get another stick of RAM for $15). Although you'll be able to run XP with 128mb, you'll see significant improvement with another stick of RAM.

Note: If you happen to have an abit bp6, it's a bit tricky to install XP using the ATA-66 ide (highpoint sucks big time).

How did you get the HPT 366 drivers to install with XP from a clean install of it, say like Windows XP Professional? During the installation you will need drivers written specifically for XP like the diskette that comes with the motheboard, ones for win98, NT and 2k? DId you use the 2K drivers for it? Did you bypass it, when I tried to bypass it, XP could not detect any hardisks, I went to abit-usa.com and found no drivers for hpt 366 written for XP, do I need to go to the HighPoint website?
