The real question is "Do I want to play UT?" But to answer your question, yes, I believe I can. (I can atleast play q3 in 9.x, and I know there is an alice port to OS X).

it took me less then 2 hours to be up and running, playing UT at 99.9999999% of your stability. How long would it take you from format to frag?

Damn the maccies are here in droves tonight. We aren't arguing Mac vs. PC. There are enough threads just on that subject. This is about XP. Thank you, come again.

Well since I dont have to deal with driver issues Id say about half an hour, of course I would be the frag

Sigh...

I really wish people running Linux and BSD would get a clue...

Windows 95, 98 and ME all crash, Windows 2000 and Windows XP do not...

My near year old install of Windows 2000 has NEVER crashed, not even once... No one I know who runs Windows 2000 has had their system crash either...

How is your BSD system more stable again?

A year? Doing what? Typing email in outlook? Very intensive there... And BTW, with all the blue screen and whatnot posts in the forums for win2k the stability thing could have fooled me

Oh, and what OS does the busiest ftp server in Australia use? What about the busiest ftp server EVER?

you unix freaks really confuse me. i mean you spend countless hours reading how tos and stuff, so you can run a supposedly stabler system that runs applications that are twice as hard to install. all in the name of saving time which you wasted by spending hours and hours reading how tos and finding the newest kernel updates to make a system that runs with less usability and a worse UI than xp.

people have a word for wasting time and energy like that. dumb

Not a surprise, we confuse many people

<< i mean you spend countless hours reading how tos and stuff, >>

Winders people should too. Maybe there is a how-to out there telling you to PATCH YOUR SERVERS

<< so you can run a supposedly stabler system that runs applications that are twice as hard to install. >>

Twice as hard for you to install maybe. I dont have much trouble

<< all in the name of saving time >>

I dont need to "save time". I do it for other reasons.

<< which you wasted by spending hours and hours reading how tos >>

The pursuit of knowledge is NOT a waste of time.

<< and finding the newest kernel updates >>

Linux kernel updates are easy to find. http://www.kernel.org. For my BSD systems, I just wait for a necessary patch.

<< to make a system that runs with less usability >>

Again, to you. The cluster fsck MS made out of Windows is horrible for me.

<< and a worse UI than xp. >>

See above

<< people have a word for wasting time and energy like that. dumb >>

Think what you want. I enjoy using a system that makes sense to me.

I also use silver. I think Win XP is more stable than Win 2000. The design is a little bit more annoying but I have no errors or that annoying blue screen at all. I've been running it for almost a month.

Most people who use Windows 2000 and get blue screens of death are due to stupidity and/or bad drivers. Linux doesn't react too well either when you have drivers that don't work right. You can't blame that on Microsoft either, you need to blame the driver developers. I have had 100% stability in Windows 2000 after about a day of working out the kinks. Linux needed much more time than that to get a stable system. Not that Linux or BSD doesn't have its place. Right now the place for Linux and BSD is on the server side. Windows 2000 is built to be a workstation operating system and no matter what Microsoft would like to think, it doesn't work well as a server ... Not nearly as well as Linux or BSD nor with the security of BSD. (You always hear about Linux servers getting hacked, but I rarely hear of BSD servers being hacked). And while I hate Macs, Mac OS X is the first Mac that I would be willing to seriously try because it is a good attempt at a Unix based operating system aimed at the general masses. (Although 10.1 or X.1 or whatever is probably better prepared than X was). The truth is that none of the new OSes have major stability problems... The days of MacOS crashing every 5 minutes and the days of Windows 98 needing a reboot due to memory leaks is over. And it is a WELCOME change! Most people arguing about which is better are arguing old and moot points... and yes I'm sure you can come up with extreme instances where MacOS X crashes or where Windows 2000 crashes, but for the vast majority of users out there Windows 2000 (or XP) and MacOS X won't.

I'm using a PC right now because it offers everything that I need in terms of software and hardware. But if BSD or a Mac fits your needs then you should be happy with what you have and not argue moot points about old operating systems. All I have to say is ... I am really glad Macs finally have a command prompt!

In any case, XP should be a nice upgrade for consumers who are stuck with Win98 or the like ... XP should offer extreme stability over the old DOS based operating systems.

Here's a screenshot of what the silver theme looks like ...

I think thats the silver theme .. Here's another one but it has the new XP start menu disabled: Link
Here's a good one from RC1 though: Link
