xp1600+ agoia won't do 166fsb anymore

When I first got the cpu a few weeks ago from newegg it would run 167x10.5 no problem. Then the other day, it didn't want to boot, so I lowered the fsb to 140 and it worked ok. I have since tried several times to get it to run 166 and it starts to boot and then I get the "its now safe to turn off computer". I tried unlocking it today with the defogger kit, and the only way it would boot is 133x6.5. I used the gap filler and made sure nothing was touching where it shouldn't. Still the same thing, 133x6.5. Removed the defogger paint, cleaned it real good, put it back in and it still won't go to 166 anymore. So I'm at 145x10.5. Also, yesterday I was playing with it again, set the fsb to 166 and it booted, but noticed the it was at 9.5 instead of 10.5 and it was running ok. So I figured I'd try 175 and it booted and ran ok at 9.5. Started it up this morning and it posted at 2200+, 175x10.5?? Decided to lower it back and it would lock before I could get into the bios. Finally got in and reset it to 145x10.5 and thats where its been all morning. Really strange goings on here.

mine did the same thing... was running 166 fine... now it just freezes after it booted up for a bit.. i lowered it and it worked better, i think it's the PCI clock went too high, (anybody know if my soyo dragon ultra platinum supports 1/5 divider? it's kt333 chipset, but it doesn't look like it support 1/5) i think that corrupted my HD too... I had to reformat...

Look at 4 things...

1) does the mobo support 1/5 divider...if not 41.5 mhz pc is high and maybe this is just a corrputed OS...

2) Is the power supply dropping its rails??

3) Hows the temps???

4) What did you have vcore at???

no particular order....

It will be iteresting to see if this is isolated or becomes a patteren with this highly successful and highly popular chip....

Yes, the 8k3a+ has the 1/5 divider and I reghosted the hard drive with the fresh install image when I first got the system up and running.

2) Is the power supply dropping its rails??
I haven't noticed any drops, mbm shows the rails staying very close. An Enermax 350w p/s.

3) Hows the temps???
Temps were staying in the 44-48c range with the Volcano7 on low, on medium it would drop to 40-43c depending on room temp.

4) What did you have vcore at???
I tried to stay close to the 1.75. Initially bumped to 1.775 and bumped the ram .2v.

Last night I bumped the vcore to 1.85, ram bumped up .3 and set the bios to 166x10.5, ram to fastest instead of turbo and it booted right up and ran quite awhile until i quit for the night. Temps were then in the 50-53c range with the increased vcore with the fan on low. On medium they dropped to the 45-48c range. I'll have to fire it up this morning and see what kind of new surprises i get.
