XP1600 on A7V266e Heat issue?

I just upgraded a computer from a Thunderbird 900 to a XP1600, on a A7V266e motherboard..
The first thing I notice is the heatsink seems rather warm, so I check the temp in the bios before even booting to my OS, and the CPU core Temp is 55C, idling, and when under pressure it gets up to 62c, I personlly find this rather hot.. I am not overclocking the CPU.. I am using a Volcano 6c heatsink, and using Artic Silver 3 heat paste..
I had heard the XP series of chip was cooler than the Thunderbird.
the chip is running a 1400mhz

anyone have any idea how I might get the temp down? without buying a new heatsink?
or is the a normal temp? 55c to under load 62c?

CPU XP1600 (not overclocked)
Thernmaltake Volcano 6C (using Artic Silver 3 paste)
motherboard A7V266E (v1010 bios)
Geforce 3
256 DDR ram.
Dlink Nic
300 Watt powersupply

personally I was having temp issues with a 1800+ on the same motherboard, with a TT Volcano 7. I found that the fan on the HSF was crap. After a lot a reasearch I've come to the conclusion that the HS itself is great, the fan sucks!
I know you don't want to change the HSF, but I'd change the fan if I were you. Panaflo, has been the reccomended to me a lot.

Also do you have any intake / exaust fans in the case?

I also have an AMD XP 1600, and an ASUS a7v266-E, like you I also get about the same cpu temperature ratings. What kind of case do you have it in? Full or Mid-tower? I also have 2 intake, and PSU exhaust, one 80mm rear exhaust, and 2 HD coolers. I think the temps are a little high also. I have an Antec jet cooler 4700rpm, off antec website, though the PC Probe shows 9000+ rpm. I'm just making sure I run the probe while I have the computer running. I am going to try some more thermal paste though, and see if that makes a difference. I'll let you know. Just one exhaust fan, or one mounted on the side will help lower the temps, and keep the room temp cool. When I run the AC and get the room temp to about 70F, I notice the MB, and CPU temp goes down about 5-10 degrees C, depending on how hot it was before. Haven't had any heat related lockups so far though.

Do a search on that motherboard here and also on XP heat problems. I have a close set-up and run 55 degrees C under full load with ambient at around 38 degrees C. I have an SVC 60 mm base and 80 mm top HS with an 80 mm fan. I lapped it and used Artic Silver II. I also run 4 80 mm fans, 2 in and 2 out.

XP's are known to run warm, but there are those who have cooled them down quite a bit.

Same thing on my board, I am getting (Web Surfing) 63C/145F on my 2000+ XP CPU, I am going to try the CPU on my Epox board and see if there is a difference. I am using the Retail HS/Fan with the board.

I have an 1800+ on an A7V266-E, running at 140Mhz FSB with an Alpha 8045 and Sunon fan in a Cooler Master aluminum case. Temps range from 45-61 degrees, depending on ambient temp. The 61 came when it was over 100 (F) that day, and typically, the CPU hangs out at around 50-52 degrees. I haven't done any experimenting with different fans, but I'll bet I could drop that a few degrees. There have been no stability issues with this PC, other than the very occasional reboot caused by goofy software (Direct Connect, edonkey)...

One point to note is that I had a previous board from MSI with the same CPU, and it registered markedly lower CPU temps.
