about a week ago i bought this cpu from newegg (out of the refurb section for $35 shipped)
im not sure how much luck others are having, but dang this is one incredible CPU!!!!
first off i just installed it and booted up (i run an epox 8k3a+ with 512mb pc2700) so it was just running at the default of 1700+... i decided to see if this thing could overclock first i just increased the fsb to 166mhz ,xp2200 speed, and i ran some games and let prime95 run all night with no problems
when i recieved it i noticed it was factory unlocked since the bridges were not closed, so i increased the multiplier from the default of 11x up to 12x (bringing it up to 2ghz)... again the thing was rock solid stable!!!
but i noticed it was running a little warmer then i like so i decided to under volt it and yup again it runs no problem (the tbred B default voltage is 1.6) this is running 1.4vcore
so for the last week its been running totally stable (even while gaming and dvd encoding... not a single crash) at xp2400+ speed, 2ghz, all the while being undervolted by .2v to 1.4vcore, the temp stays in the low 40's at idle and get up to the high 40's when gaming.
*** update 1 ***
i decided to try to find the limit of this cpu, so first i had to find the limit of the fsb (since at 166hz fsb i was already maxing out the multiplier limit, it is unlocked giving me full range of 5x-12.5x but without a 13x and higher i would need to increase the fsb higher then 166mhz)
so i lowered the multiplier and increased the fsb, i could only get to 175mhz fsb... once i found the fsb limit i just kept raising the multiplier. i was suprised i was able to get all the way back up to 12.5x, ohh by the way i did raise the vcore up to default of 1.6v
so... the end result is i still dont know the limit of the cpu at this current speed the motherboard post screen identifies it as an xp2600+ but its actually running 175x12.5 or 2188mhz
i really dont want to unlock the 13x and up multipliers since i then wont be able to run it where i intend to keep it on a daily basis of 166x12 or 2ghz, but without the higher multipliers i wont be able to find the limit
but its kinda cool that it will run at xp2600+ speeds while at default (or lower) voltage
