xp1700+ tbred, your mobo/temps?

I'm using a GC68 + zalman and it's keeping it round 50/51C at full speed (kt3 ultra2). putting it slow speed seems to peak at 55 (and then lock windows...)

What else is everyone else using? My temps just seem a bit high for a tbred running stock. and windows should be locking (or the system randomly rebooting i should say) when the temps were only around 55.

i don't use it. i suggest you use a new fan to cool down the processor

And the tbred A's run hot. The GC68 may not be up to snuff for that CPU.

not to mention the smaller contact surface is more dependant on contact surface quality and material. An Alu heatsink already hurts, then the possibility of hte newer GC68s haveing poor base quality. (which contrary to some belief, is very important on a small contact surface).

i have a Zalmon on a Athlon XP 1800+ and it sits at 30 - 40c i have a Enermax 120mm fan on it thou

make sure the blind spot on the zalmon fan is not on the center/core of the processor!

make sure the shutdown temp on board is more than 60c and it might be a PSU problem coursing random reboots.

the random reboots (always happened w/in 5-10 minutes i should have added) went away after i double checked everything w/ the contact and upped the fan.

as i stated, i was using a kt3 ultra2. and there doesn't seem to be a setting for the shut down temp. But today, i'm going to give the golden gate a shot, all copper should help over the aluminum. But my GC68 seems to have a pretty good base, very polished and smooth, doesn't seem to have any concavity.

The KT3 Ultra has auto-shutdown temp when it reads the itnernal diode temp as too high.

The KT3 Ultra, however, does not give the end-user that temp. The tmep you are seeing is the socket-thermsitor temp.

Now, depending on your case temp, your socket-thermistor temp is very high compared to other kt3 series motherboards. The average observed temp is 35-45C socket-thermsitor "reading" versus 25-35ishC case temp.

kt3 ultra aru, 40 idle and 45-46 load. using an ax-7 with enermax adjustable. i'm also running 1.838 ghz @ 1.825v. case temps are about 34-35 idle and 38-39 load.

1700+ stock w/ GC68 + Panaflo L1A @ 12V on an ECS K7S5A: 43C idle/47C load (socket thermistor). Case is at 33C.

The GC68 may not be up to snuff for that CPU.

A $6 aluminum heatsink is absolutely fine with this proc, even with a low flow fan on top. Hell, even with the L1A @ 7V, socket temps are 47C idle/51C load. I couldn't be more pleased with my 1700+; my 1.4 tbird was ~7-8C hotter, and it ran stable up to 60+C in the summer.

that's w/ the tbred? strange. i cannot get that kind of cooling. the clip on mine is signifcantly weaker than the golden gate (which i've replaced it with for now... hitting 42-47 load.. depending on ambient.. turning on the heat to try to simulate summer ).

System at 31C and the cpu in the 43C-45C range under normal loads. It peaks at 50C under a heavy load. The stange thing is that when I first installed it with ASII it ran in the mid-high 30's and never went above 45C. Not anymore. Have since cleaned it and reapplied the last of my ASII, then tried ASIII and it still stays in the 40's which is perfectly acceptable. But it bugged me that I couldn't get that 10 degree difference back.

the KT3 Ultra 2 does have an auto shutdown feature, tho the lowest it can go is 70ºC i believe, ill have a look later to see where its exactly located... or try to find it in the manual

Might I suggest a Thermalright SLK-800?? All copper and can use 60, 70, or 80 mm fan. I have one on my XP2000 with 80mm Vantec Tornado running at 4,500 (according MBM5) and cpu sits at 34degC idle with room temps at 20degC. My room temps have a big impact on the cpu and mb temps. Generally though, mb runs 3degC higher than room temp, with cpu about 13/14degC higher. I have Lian Li case with 5 fans all speed controlled. 2 inlets (80mm), 2 exhaust (80mm) and 1 blowhole (120mm).
