thiis is kinda hot, but i will never buy oem again. my 10 mth old oem 1700+ just died , theres no overheating or whatsoever, and it worked flawlessly for that 10 mths.

oem comes with a 1yr warranty if im not mistaken....

When I click on SKORPI0 link I saw both palmino ($80) and throughbred ($100) xp2100s.
What is the difference between them?
And is my A7M266 ASUS MOBO is compatible with these CPUs?

Why "hurry?" I've checked twice over the last 15 hours and both times I could add 99 to my cart. They're loaded with these things. Since the supply is obviously not an issue, why is this chip $14 higher than a Palomino 2100+? They're gouging you guys!

Economics of supply and demand

If they offered both at the same price.. everyone would ask for the new one (duh!). But since they still have stock of the old stuff.. they need to get rid of it.. they aren't going to do that by pricing it any LOWER (than their cost). So they price the Tbreds higher to a) entice people that don't care about Palamino's or T-Breds to get the cheaper one and/or b) make up for any losses they may take by marking the Palaminos down in the near future.

PLUS you pay a little extra to guarantee you are actually getting the new Tbreds.. I've called so many other places that never sort their CPUs.

Sorry to diasgree, but not everyone would want the Tbred "B" because not all mobos support it. That fact should equalize any demand issues you raise.

So, REALLY it comes down to gouging. A 14% premium is absurd. The price would stabilize if everyone would stop "hurrying." Maybe then, Newegg would take a few seconds to type in the stepping code like they did with the AGOIA 1600+s.

Who knows? They certainly aren't guaranteeing the good stepping in the product description! If the stepping is right though (AIUHB), you can get 2.5 GHz on air.

How can you tell the two apart? My wife and I just got 2100+'s a month ago, and I am completely not sure which they are. Is there a way to tell without pulling the heatsink? I vaugly recall reading one is brown, one is green, but Newegg has pics for both as green?

That price isn't hot per se, but it is a good price in general. I picked it up from PC Club for the same price (+$5 for boxed) and the OEM from them has a year warranty.

Pardon the ignorance, but what's the difference between the $86 2100+ and the $100 one posted here? If I was to get an NForce2 would it be better to spring the extra money for the $100 one? I think this has been asked earlier, but anyone got a good answer? Thanks!

If you want to overclock, then get the T-bred B for $100, if you don't then get the $86 Palomino. The Nforce2 platform is great for overclocking combined with the T-bred B, as you can gain at least 300mhz with minimal effort by simply changing the multiplier (high and low multis are enabled with Nforce2 boards) or by increasing the FSB (memory permitting). The Palomino can overclock as well, but is not nearly as proficient and requires more work.

That's the simple explanation, and requires the simple answer of Overclock: yes or no. If it helps your decision any, these chips are more or less the same as higher rated Athlons that cost 2x, 3x, and 4x as much.
