Dave, the problem is that there is no way to tell if the retail versions are revision B, which means you could be paying the extra 10.00 bucks for a proc that won't overclock as well. I too would like the 3 year warranty, but not willing to risk not getting a rev B

Coolred, just wondering if you were able to flash a new BIOS on your ECS K7S5A?

Haven't tried it yet, I would rather not risking flashing mu board in to oblivian unless i already have the CPU, which i haven't even order yet.

Yeah but where do you get to add the warranty at? Is it during the checkout process or do i have to find it somewhere and add it to my cart? Also what sort of thermal grease should I get, and should I get a shim. And will my copper bottomed Taisol heat sink be good enough to cool this, it has a globalwin fan on it, so its better then the standard taisol fan.

These are mostly downbinned 2600+ parts. Overclockers.com is reporting that the AIUHB stepping is averaging 2400 mhz overclock, 700+ mhz over default.

So can someone help me out with how to get the warranty and what thermal grease I should get, and should I get a shim with my CPU?

coolred: when you buy the proc at newegg it'll have a message at the bottom that tells you that the proc carries only a 30day warranty... do you want a year? click yes.
as for thermal grease, get Arctic Silver3 or 2... AS2/3 is the best stuff around. Look for it on sale around. Or... find it on the FS/FT forums

Dont bother w/ a shim... theyre more trouble than theyre worth. Just get a good heatsink, and make sure that it doesnt rock when you're installing it.

when you say you have 512MB of crucial DDR, do you have 2x 256MB sticks or one 512MB stick? with your nforce2 board, you should get two sticks of memory so you can tap into that dual DDR memory architecture. with just one chip, you are just doing single channel and not get the most out of the board. just some food for thought (and no, i don't work for the memory companies, hehehe)

Considering palomino 2100+ will overclock to about 1.9Ghz max, and the TBred-B's will clock to at least 2.1Ghz, and usually around 2.3-2.4, right there is a XP 2900+ - 3000+, so is it really "ripping us off"? You decide

LOL. My original post was from 1/22. The fact that you can still buy these for LESS proves my point: there was no need to hurry 16 days ago. Newegg did well with its little gouge.

I finally ordered mine, hopefully i will get it early next week.

On a side not, can anyone tell me if a fan filter will fit in front of a fan with an Antec 1030B case? I was just wondeirng since they use the clip thing to hold the fans, i thought the extra width of the filter might make it not fit.

I need a little help flashing my BIOS too support this new proc I am getting.

I am using the program found here

I went throught the process like it said. i downloaded the files, formated the disk using Win XP. I am assuming in XP you check the box labeled create an MS-DOS startup disk to transfer the system files like they say? I then copied the BIOS and flash utiliy files to the disk. Rebooted and it said something like searching for OS on ARMD floppy, then it said OK after that and then it hangs there, whats going on?

One of the comments stated that some mboards/bios do not work with rev B processors.

Is there a list of these some where?

But since they still have stock of the old stuff.. they need to get rid of it.. they aren't going to do that by pricing it any LOWER (than their cost). So they price the Tbreds higher to a) entice people that don't care about Palamino's or T-Breds to get the cheaper one and/or b) make up for any losses they may take by marking the Palaminos down in the near future.

PLUS you pay a little extra to guarantee you are actually getting the new Tbreds.. I've called so many other places that never sort their CPUs.

-slappy

Sorry to diasgree, but not everyone would want the Tbred "B" because not all mobos support it. That fact should equalize any demand issues you raise.

So, REALLY it comes down to gouging. A 14% premium is absurd. The price would stabilize if everyone would stop "hurrying." Maybe then, Newegg would take a few seconds to type in the stepping code like they did with the AGOIA 1600+s.

Sigh you are missing the point, I think most other people got it though.

Those of you OCed this CPU to 2ghz+, what kind of PSU you guys running with?

I am thinking about buying one.. but I am not sure if my 330w Enermax will do it. (I think my Radeon9700 is power hungry...)

I got a three hundred watt psu , a slk-800 heatsink 40cfm fan, and my @2100+ runs stable at 2060 ( 103 fsb) on kt7 this is my second cpu, I FRIED my first one in 3 sec because my heatsink wasn't on right and there a space between the sink and chip, so check twice before you burn once..........

I use a 330w Enermax and I'm right at 2 Ghz with this chip. Adding a Radeon 9700 Pro to the mix tomorrow so I'll let you know how it holds up.

Great! =)

Really appreciated if you would post your result.

BTW, what was your stepping and what kind of hsf do you use on that 2ghz system?
