I'm in on this one but could someone recommend a good inexpensive cooler? I have been using the GC-68 from SVC. Will that be adequate on a thorougbred B? I really like that cooler because it uses a a 80mm fan, very quiet compared to some of the screaming high speed 60mm you normally find on other coolers. I have an alpha (think it is the pal6035) which I have been thinking about converting over to an 80mm using one of the fan adapters. But hey, if the SVC GC-68 will work...that's the way to go.

Recently built a new rig with week 48.

Got my overclocking to 2.35ghz, stable 12.5*185fsb
Corsair RAM (XMS3200 LL)
SmartfanII and SLK-800
Epox 8rda+
temps: 37C Idle, 43C Load

XP2100@XP3000+ speeds (not bad for $100)

1.85 probably not gonna go any higher than this.

I've tried my best to get to 200fsb but cant get past 185fsb. Guess my CPU is limiting me. I've done the "async" and my memory can definitely handle 200fsb.

I've also got active cooling on my northbridge (Zalman HF with 60mm fan) Nothing on Southbridge though...

It's a revision B and can do 166mhz FSB fine, but as soon as I try to change the multiplyer in the BIOS and save it, it will not work or boot....weired

Uhhh...this is a 2100+, it's not meant to run at 166MHz FSB. You're OC'ing it quite a bit, which is why changing the multiplier causes crashes: it's OC'ed too much.

Also, I just ordered one of these with a brand new A7N8X Deluxe...should make a pretty damn nice combination

Thanks for the reply, let me be more specific, when I said to change the multiplyer, I mean to change it at 133 mhz FSB and without any OC'ing....just try to change it.....but it will always crash...I can use the default multiplyer and bump the FSB to 166mhz, but no matter what the FSB is, as soon as I change the multiplyer, it will crash...., all my other(3) refurb 1700 rev B runs fine at 166mhz FSB with default voltage.....

I'm running an XP2100+ on my KT7-RAID (non A version) at 22x100 = 2200MHz, which is approx. equivalent to the speed of an XP2800+

When you use a CPU with the higher multipliers enabled (i.e. the 5th multiplier bit enabled), which is basically anything >= XP2100+, the multipliers on the KT7 are remapped from x to x+8, some to even higher values up to 24x. Refer to this site for more info.

docinthebox (and others),

if you overclock at 22x100 I assume that it means you run your processor with a 100Mhz front side bus, when it could be doing 133 instead, so you end up with a faster processor but bogged down I/O don't you?

Wouldn't it be better to run at 16.5X133 instead? or even better move to 13x166FSB, like in the previous post?
Does anyone know if a KT333 based board can be safely pushed to 166FSB (I'm assuming that the BIOS would then need a 1/5 divider for the PCI bus)

(sorry, I'm new at overclocking so please don't flame, just trying to understand it, link to good resources would be appreciated and help moves this out of the thread. FYI I've got an AK35GT2 (KT333) and just ordered this XP2100 at $85)

Yes, you're exactly right. By running @ 22 x 100, he's losing lots of performance. It's always better to have higher fsb, lower multiplier. Actually, running @ 13.5 x 166 is the exact specs of a 2800+ (2250 mhz)
