I noticed that there are 3 chips on the site:

1) Model: AXDA2100DUT/3C for $93

2) Model#: AX2100DMT3C for $94

3) Model#: AXDA2100BOX for $102.

Other than price, what's the difference. Any model better than the others?

thanks

Mattlock,

1. Thoroughbred - .13 micron.
2. Palomino - .18 micron.
3. Thoroughbred retail, including heatsink & fan (3 year warranty).

On a side not, can anyone tell me if a fan filter will fit in front of a fan with an Antec 1030B case? I was just wondeirng since they use the clip thing to hold the fans, i thought the extra width of the filter might make it not fit.

Antec makes one you slide in the slot at the bottom of your case between the bezel and the fans. I think its about $6

$102.

Is it worth the extra $9 to get the retail or is the stock cooling on these things garbage? If OEM is better, what budget HSF would you guys suggest to get it over 2ghz?

Looking on newegg I see the above posted AXDA2100DUT3C code for the OEM and
AXDA2100BOX for the retail. The retail is referred to only as 2100 XP Thoroughbred. No revision B. I have read various replies that discuss whether 2100 came in Thoroughbred A, etc., but I'm not sure what the real answer is. Can someone please clarify whether I should order the retail (102 including HSF) or the oem if I am interested in oc'ing?

Thanks,
Oxbow

Economics of supply and demand

If they offered both at the same price.. everyone would ask for the new one (duh!). But since they still have stock of the old stuff.. they need to get rid of it.. they aren't going to do that by pricing it any LOWER (than their cost). So they price the Tbreds higher to a) entice people that don't care about Palamino's or T-Breds to get the cheaper one and/or b) make up for any losses they may take by marking the Palaminos down in the near future.

PLUS you pay a little extra to guarantee you are actually getting the new Tbreds.. I've called so many other places that never sort their CPUs.

-slappy

Sorry to diasgree, but not everyone would want the Tbred "B" because not all mobos support it. That fact should equalize any demand issues you raise.

So, REALLY it comes down to gouging. A 14% premium is absurd. The price would stabilize if everyone would stop "hurrying." Maybe then, Newegg would take a few seconds to type in the stepping code like they did with the AGOIA 1600+s.

Sigh you are missing the point, I think most other people got it though.

Sigh I hope you weren't one of the gullible ones that paid a 14% premium.

I ordered the retail version soon as I read this post, took a chance that the retail CPU's weren't moving nearly as fast as the OEM's. Got it today with the exact same stepping and date. I'm extremely pleased, just hoping the rev2 NF7-S hits the shelves real soon so I can find out what this baby can do.

Thanks for posting this DJK6!

Just got an 0302 from ExcaliberPC. I ran a bunch of benchmarks at 2500MHz (12.5 x 200 with 1.85V) - stable. I got lucky.

Uhhh...this is a 2100+, it's not meant to run at 166MHz FSB. You're OC'ing it quite a bit, which is why changing the multiplier causes crashes: it's OC'ed too much.

Also, I just ordered one of these with a brand new A7N8X Deluxe...should make a pretty damn nice combination
