I.e., I have changed out a mobo before, with all that entails, but not sure of what I am trying to do here.
I have an Asus A7N8X rev. 1 mobo (333 fsb) with an XP2600+(Tbird) running at 2.1 Ghz. Just bought a Mobile (Barton) XP2500+ to swap out (I hope), as per a suggestion in the mobo forum. So I can try o/c'ing it, of course.
My first question is: can I just swap it out, and then go into the BIOS and see about upping the multiplyers? OR, do I have to set everything in the BIOS for the new chip while the old chip is still in place? (This was a suggestion I recieved, but I don't know what my new settings would be until I try o/c'ing it, right?) I am pretty sure that 333 fsb is the best that can be done with this mobo. I didn't think about this until I posted my plans on a flightsim board that I frequent, and one guy raised some questions about the board/BIOS recognizing the new chip. Never thought of that>my bad!
I'm just trying to get some more mileage out of this old girl before I finally have to build a completely new rig.
Any suggestions, hints, etc., would be much appreciated.
