Mine was from Home and arrived today. it did not include the backpack, but I'm thinking of ordering a backpack seperately, as I'm not sure my current laptop bag is up to the task, due to size!

No time for pics or anything, but I will say this. I installed HL2 and Brothers In Arms. Jacked both to 1920x1200 high everything at 4xAA & 8AF, no problems. Will post a 3dmark asap.

What kind of FPS are you getting at those resolutions? That is some serious pixel moving.

Ok, I have been too busy gaming to do any serious tests. I have not done any benches, I will post what was very very playable for me in certain games (I don't mean just playable either, these are very smooth).

HL2 (1920x1200 w\4xAA &8xAF) (Everything maxed)
BIA (1920x1200 w\4xAA &8xAF) (Everything maxed)
Doom 3 (1600x1200 w\w\4xAA &8xAF) (Set to high quality textures and everything else maxed)

All of these settings were extremely smooth, I do indeed turn sound quality to medium on any laptop still as these cards just aren't up to the task, once done, no HDD trashing\stutters. The one thing I did do was run the Counter Strike Source video stress test. I ran it at the same settings as HL2 and recieved 57.7 FPS.

Just noticed the questions, I did not get the backpack as my current one works well (Jansport with Airlift straps, ooooo). It did not come free with home purchase though, it was an addon. As far as the top panel goes, I'm not sure, I didn't get the custom insert panel. I'm guessing it would just pop of like the 9100 I had (must apply a little pressure).

P.S. If anyone knows commands to run a FPS benchie in HL2 I would be happy to. I'm guessing there is a console commanbd eh? Will looke online now but appreciate any help. Tell me what you want and if I don't hafta but software I'll give it a shot.

I got mine 3 days ago, ship date was listed as 4/8/04, and I was debating canceling my order... too late now!

I was just watching tv Monday when UPS arrived with my new xps-2... what a nice surprise that was I wasn't expecting it to be shipped for another week at the least. Now that I've gotten a chance to use it I can say there's no way I'm ever taking it back. I was happy with my desktop perferomance (3200+, 6800, 1 gig ram) and the xps-2 2ghz version scores slightly better than my desktop on the few benchmarks I've run so far. It's beautiful!

Very cool, the ones I had seen were over 5k but nowhere near 6k and I had heard people loading it on a ramdrive were gaining 1k on the 05 tests.

If that was stock with auto overclocking enabled that is awesome man. Very nice indeed.

Which drivers did you load and where did you get them? I want the drivers with auto-overclock. I downloaded from nvidia but my laptop would not accept them, something I need to do?

You need to get your drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com. The drivers are not distributable with the inf file that is needed for the 6800 go so dont forget to grab the inf too. Extract the drivers and replace the inf and any of the regular drivers will work.
Word of warning: overclock sliders do not work with the ultra. Auto overclock does work but will raise the core to 545mhz which is not stable for gaming but lets me run a few passes of 3dmark05 before it will crash. Auto overclock also does not alter the memory speeds.

Probably because they have consumer protection laws to protect consumers from scams such as extended warranties and other stuff that the company is responsible for anyway.

Question from clueless me...

Is it possible to upgrade RAM at a later date? My friends say that 1g of ram is far preferable to 512m, but that would raise it over my budget.

Also, which center did you guys order from? In Small Business, the price shows up at 2,299 for default components, whereas the home office shows up as 2,349. Is there any difference between the two? Thanks

shouldn't be a problem to get ram later at all, in fact, it's way cheaper to do that when dealing with dell. as for the difference between the two departments, it's pretty much the product line. although the small business would probably have some different components available.

Click on the link that this sentense is on the Dell website

In these states this level of warranty is considere dinsurance and Dell is not an insurance carrier (with backup and state control and all that Jazz) so it is not legal to offer it there.

You most likely have 2x 256 MB as it is, unless you've been smart and selected the 1x 512 MB option.

I don't know how accessible the second slot is but at least one slots should be easily accessible so you can easily upgrade to 768 or 1280 by giving up and selling one 256 MB module (with the 1280 option being expensive) or wiith some amount of fiddling you can replace both 256s with 512s.

BTW, I'd buy a 256 MB module if you want to sell it.

Was just cruising notebookforums.com and some folks over there are reporting that if you are on the EPP mailing list for Dell you should have a coupon worth 33% off the XPS-2. Combine that with the 12% off you get with a 3 yr waranty and you are getting the 40% off the latest and greatest.

Also they are saying if you have access AAFES has a pretty big discount also.

That was how you supposedly got the coupon. I could have swore I was on the EPP mailing list but never got anything. Maybe a spam catcher snatched it up.....

Oh well. Sign from above to stick with my M70......

Hey guy, hopefully someone can help me out with this. I'm looking for some benchmarks for gen 2, and google isn't getting me anywhere. hopefully one of you guys who already have one can help out.

I'm looking for some scores on 3dMark2001se and 3dMark2003. I've heard they're pretty high but no one seems to want to post numbers for me.

If anyone could get back to me that would be great.

Just off the top of my head:

2K1: 18,000+
2K3: 12,000+
2K5: 5,000+ (5,400+ depending on drivers)

Have you seen it fictionised? Owners say it looks better than the picts. Thought that was BS until I got my M70 and that DOES look better than the pictures.

From my experience, if you change resolution that's not the same ratio as the native resolution, then you get skewed images. This is visually apparent when viewing text.

Thanks
