LOL i had a dream about this last night! I really hope my ETA is correct, i even talked to a CS on it, and he said it should be. If that's true, that's over 2 weeks before the US folks gets them!

I hope your ETA is correct too.

That way you can let us know if the XPS-2 is worth 2.5G in time for us to cancel our orders if it isn't.....

I hate you already, you and your March ship date .

I've heard rumors that the US ones will ship before April 8th, but how much before, who knows.

I had a similiar thing happen to me when I ordered my Axim X30. It took a month to get mine, but people in the UK got them within a week.

Ugh, typical Dell. Sweet looking notebook and I love the $2200 price. With coupons I should be able to get it for $1800 easy I thought to myself. But then I go to the Dell website and start to congfigure it for 1 GB, large hard drive, etc, and pretty soon it's $3400. That's way out of my league.

Personally I like the longer battery life of the XPS2 and the weight (since I travel).

The highest resolution on the XPS2 doesn't really concern me. I run my Dell Inspiron 8200 at 1600x1200 and it's only a 15" screen.

The worst part is that I am currently shopping for a new car.

It is "pretty tempting" to get a $2500 cheaper car and this - err - navigation system

Im looking to replace my 6 year old desktop system (yes 6 years old!!!!) with a notebook replacement so am torn between the xps 2 and the 9300

I mostly want it for dvd burning, internet, photo editing and some games. I mostly play games like C&C generals or simcity 4 but would also like to be able to play some of the newer games like doom 3.

Would the x300 graphic card that comes with the 9300 be sufficient ? How hard is it to upgrade a notebooks components?. Id like to maybe buy a better card later on.

Thanks for the help.

inspiron 9200 should be fine for those games.

Or the X300 based 9300.

I'd save a grand, get the 9200, and spend the $1000 you save on a good external LCD either a 2001FP ($550) or 2450FPW ($1200)....

The XPS-2/9200/9300 are not using the expandable graphics modules.

That said you may be able to upgrade the 9300 from the x300 to the 6800 by buying the card from dell parts. Don't count on it though.

Doom 3 and C&C Generals both run fine on my Inspiron 9200 (ATI Radeon 9700 128MB). I have 1.25 GB of RAM as well. So you should be fine with the 9300 as well.

I think the 6000 replaced the 5160. The Latitude D810 does not have an Inspiron counterpart as of yet (D800 did pair with 8600). It is based on the new Sonoma platform and has X600 graphics...

The 6000 replaced both the 5160 (Integrated Grahics Model) and the 8600 (Discrete Graphcs Model).

The 9300 is a different machine. The US will eventually be selling both the iXPS2 and 9300. Europe and Australia... they might not get the 6800GoUltra. Why? My guess would be there's probably not a big enough market there for it.

Interesting discussion about this on the Dell forum: http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums...oard.id=insp_general&message.id=180730

Wow. Just configured it similar to the stock XPS-2 and the 9300 costs more but has the non ultra 6800 go.

Yeah, that doesn't make much sense. We'll see how the prices pan out once they start shipping. Small Business currently has $700 off the XPS2, while Home is only $500 off. And the 9300 still isn't "live" through Dell's front page (Home or Business), so I'm not sure if you can order it yet. That direct link is the only way to get to the 9300 page.

Ok the 9300 is available "for real" through my EPP site.

When configured as close as possible to the XPS-2 minimum config (2ghz CPU, 17" glarey WUXGA screen, 512mb DDR2. NON-ultra 256mb 6800 go) the price is $1890. So you are paying about $200 for the 256mb Ultra and some bling bling.

I think it's worth it......

Yup, it's also up on Home and Small Business through the the main site now. Too bad the latest 35% off coupon doesn't work on either model.
