LOL i had a dream about this last night! I really hope my ETA is correct, i even talked to a CS on it, and he said it should be. If that's true, that's over 2 weeks before the US folks gets them!

Yeah they 9860 is a better machine if you want things like RAID, extra hard drives, etc.
Personally I like the longer battery life of the XPS2 and the weight (since I travel).
The highest resolution on the XPS2 doesn't really concern me. I run my Dell Inspiron 8200 at 1600x1200 and it's only a 15" screen.

I noticed they removed the 8600 from their web site, anyone have any info on what its replacement will be labled and when it will be announced?
Doom 3 and C&C Generals both run fine on my Inspiron 9200 (ATI Radeon 9700 128MB). I have 1.25 GB of RAM as well. So you should be fine with the 9300 as well.Originally posted by: StealthPants
Im looking to replace my 6 year old desktop system (yes 6 years old!!!!) with a notebook replacement so am torn between the xps 2 and the 9300
I mostly want it for dvd burning, internet, photo editing and some games. I mostly play games like C&C generals or simcity 4 but would also like to be able to play some of the newer games like doom 3.
Would the x300 graphic card that comes with the 9300 be sufficient ? How hard is it to upgrade a notebooks components?. Id like to maybe buy a better card later on.
Thanks for the help.

The replacement is the 6000 w/Discrete Graphics.

I think the 6000 replaced the 5160. The Latitude D810 does not have an Inspiron counterpart as of yet (D800 did pair with 8600). It is based on the new Sonoma platform and has X600 graphics...

The 6000 replaced both the 5160 (Integrated Grahics Model) and the 8600 (Discrete Graphcs Model).

Wow. Just configured it similar to the stock XPS-2 and the 9300 costs more but has the non ultra 6800 go.
