I think your over thinking things , if the loop is set up for low noise ,low temps never/why get software in there. 600 rpm to what ever[1200] will never make a 20c difference imo
-maybe a flow meter -no flow shut system down.
and a water temp sensor to a fan controller.
just saying what if software fails-remember overheating cards when I forgot to check a box years ago for a fan profile.
-won't touch speed fan with a 10' pole
-I would think the gpu fan output is only good for one small fan

-I saw 35c once on my cards
Wait, you're suggesting adding all kinds of unnecessary trinkets to the loop because you neglected to properly set up your software and failsafes but he's the one over-thinking things?

First I would like to thank your interest and input into my build as you have definitely influenced the direction I'm heading.

For software monitoring I use HMPro to view real time Temps of the CPU & GPU in the SysTray and run Core Temp in the back ground to shut down the System if the CPU Temp goes over 86C.

I've no experience with Fan Speed but I assume the program will replace apps such as AB or TRIXX that assign Fan Profiles and set a MAX Temp such as Core Temp which Auto Shuts Down the system for both the CPU and GPU. - I've yet to play with Fan Speed.

I wish HM Pro had Auto Shut Down option.

Pump to an older thread.

I need a waterblock for my XFX R290 , I am planning to buy XSPC Razor but is it really necessary to get the back plate as well. It is time to sell my 6990 that is under water and upgrade. I need to order block asap as my pc is down until I get the block so I can add the 290 to my loop.

Not finding alot of options online, dont want to break the bank on one either , Sidewinder will have Razor in this week, any other options similarly priced?

I have EK blocks on mine without back plates. They work extremely well and the price was right at frozencpu

Geez! My Thread awakened almost a year later - Sorry I didn't attend it - Too much going on.

Good for you guskline with your EK AMD R9 290X.

Check out My Unigine Valley and Heaven scores for single 290X and 290X CF under water at a measly 1080p - They have not been beaten for AMD Scores - I feel sorry for nVidia enthusiasts once they approach 1440p and 4k resolutions.

Enjoy your EK 290X ;o}

And I can't believe the # of hits on this thread - Over 15000 - WOW!

Look at my 1st Post of this thread to see my Final Platform.

One thing I should mention is that I tend to lay the Fractal Midi R2 case on it's RT-Hand side because over time. due to the weight or misalignment of the heavy XSPC Reference PCB Cards, cause the 2nd card to loose golden finger contact on the 2nd PCIe GPU 3.0/2.0 x16 MB slot and subsequently loose CF.

Always have a way to prop the card up, if adding your own cooling. Nylon rope, zip ties, cardboard stands, whatever. On a lot of WC rigs they 'hide' the supports, integrating them, by having the fittings and hoses be so close enough to other loop parts that they help support the cards.

Very clever, for something that will be shown off. But, if not shown off, rigid foam, folded cardboard, a short length of PVC, twine, or an anything else that can push or pull on it, will do. Before buying my case with a support, I had an MK-26 on my card, and had the cooler held up some by paracord (inner part only). Ugly, if that were to matter to you, but it worked.

Cerb: Yah! Hardware fitment anomalies can cause for all sorts of CF/SLI and Driver Crap, especially when OC'g multiple GPU's under heavy water cages ;o)

Name it the "FLEX Engagement".

The Fractal Design Midi R2 is a great water cooling case - Just lay her on side and physically re-seat the GPU's and keep her there.

2 x's AMD Reference PCB XSPC 290X 's GPU's in CF, when working properly, may be compared to firing 17 LB projectiles at 1800 FPS from a Mauser 88 Cannon.
