thanks for the input bonds.... since your not constructive in any way, please refrain from commenting. while the thread is active, why not try to help instead of patronizing? at the very worst, the people who've bid on this can refrain from paying, so don't berate them from trying to capitalize on a potentially smoking deal. I sent another email to the seller asking if he'll accept alternate payments, Visa, MC, AMEX, etc

Until the thread is locked, please don't post assinine comments berating fellow users. Instead, try to help them... that's what this forum is all about, anyways. Damn, I need to get my GreenPeace dues in

Found it by putting Visiontek into the search box.
This sounds too good to be true. It's too low even for a TI200.

Okay so let's say you do bid( we are trying to be constructive right?) if you paypal this guy with cc source and it is a scam, I imagine you would call your cc company to reverse the charges, what I want to know is how is that handled through paypal,.guess we need paypaldamon over here...how exactly would that work since i've never had to attempt such a thing, also he still hasn't answered any of my emails, but some members are claiming he has answered theirs..I find this very strange, although he's probably being flooded by them.

I have disputed a charge from paypal to my credit card after unsuccessfully trying to resolve the problem with paypal directly. After explaining the issue to Citibank, they immediately issued a credit. You'd probably want to clean out any balance you had in your paypal account before paying the guy.

I have my bank account and credit card registered with PayPal. Every time I send a payment the money is taken out of my bank account. How could I send the money from my credit card instead? (more protection)

Just log in, then click on PROFILE, remove your debit card or bank account information, add your credit card information.

Crap, I can't remove my bank account, because that is how I get money that is sent to me... There is no absolute way to fund the payment from my registered credit card?

Confused. The bank account and credit cards are separate items in your profile.

If you have -0- balance in your paypal account and have registered a credit card, you can select the credit card as the funding option immediately before you send the money. I just tried it and was not given the credit card option until I zeroed out my account. Hope this helps.

Sorry if someone already posted this, but if you read this before 845amPST, you might be able to hop on a deal.

hey "Kravahn" SCREW YOU - I think this deal sounds fishy and I posted that. I just dont want anyone to get screwed and then find the next day they got a $2000 charge on their credit card!!!

Here are the facts of this aution:

Seller raiting : "This user does not have a rating yet. "
Payment method accepted: PAYPAL
Contact Info: A Hotmail account
Package Content: VISIONTEK Xtasy 6564(GeForce3 Ti 200 Graphics Chipset).64MB DDR.4X/2X, AGP.TV/S-Video Out.

Maybe I am the only one, but first the person does not have any feedback. The other the person only accepts paypal (which is not 100% safe), next is the FREE email account. Oh and the kicker is the Package content - it is a Ti200

this is my 2 cents...

>>>Maybe I am the only one, but first the person does not have any feedback.<<<

Not to worry...he'll have PLENTY of feedback when the auction is over...most likely, he'll also be long gone and some Anandtechers will be left holding the bag. Caveat Emptor certainly applies here.

If it's too good to be true, it usually is. Wouldn't touch it with a 20-foot pole.

This sounds super fishy. I have bought stuffs from ubid before. They usually collect from credit card, but this seller only accepts paypal. If its a business, wouldn't they prefer credit card???

Another thing I noticed. Check the source of the pic, "C:\My Documents\My Pictures\Video card.jpg"

Pretty shady looking. No way to check anything about the seller, even his name, address or phone number. No recourse unless the cc company you withdraw the funds from happens to pity you. It is like a cash withdrawal to paypal. If you do this call the cc company ahead of time to ask about their policy in such an instance.

Well I am taking the chance, I see no harm. I mean, I am just going to send the money via Paypal (credit card not bank acct) and worst comes to worst, he doesnt ship it and I have to call my CC company.

No uBid.com will have to eat the money if the person does not ship them. Here is what their protection plan says.
Also this person has only had a paypal account for 11 days as of right now, they are verified, but still smells weird.
There is a $25 charge then whatever is left goes back to you.

uBid Buyer Protection

In an ongoing effort to improve security and protect against fraud on Consumer Exchange, we are pleased to add the Buyer Protection Program to our list of services. Many items on Consumer Exchange are covered by this Buyer Protection Program. The protection provided under the Buyer Protection Program is backed by insurance obtained from Underwriters at Lloyd's, London. We offer this program to buyers in the Consumer Exchange free of charge. Although the vast majority of Consumer Exchange transactions are trouble-free, the Buyer Protection Program provides an additional measure of safety to protect against potential fraud.

Claims of fraud may be made when you have:

1. not received an item for which you have made full payment; or

2. received an item that is materially different than the item described and ordered,

and your attempts to remedy the problem with the seller have proved unsuccessful.

Both the buyer and seller accounts must be in good standing when the contested auction is closed.

To be in good standing, the registered buyer and seller must not have a Feedback Rating at the time of the transaction of less than 4.
A buyer who has not yet received a Feedback Rating shall be considered to be in good standing, but a Seller who has not yet received a Feedback Rating will not be considered to be in good standing.
If either party to an auction transaction is not in good standing, the auction will not qualify for this Buyer Protection Program.

What is the Buyer Protection Program?

Bidders are protected for up to $500 minus a $25 deduction. Please note that the Buyer Protection Program only covers buyers.

The period for filing a claim with our claims administrator extends until 60 days after close of auction. There is a limit of one claim per month, and no more than four claims in any year.

How does it work?
If you are a buyer with an auction complaint and feel that you need to use our Buyer Protection Program, here are the steps you should follow:

First, try to communicate directly with the seller. Many problems are simple misunderstandings. You'll find the seller's email address in your winning bid confirmation email.

If you are unable to resolve the matter with the seller, file a complaint with uBid's Consumer Exchange Customer Care Department. Email a detailed account of your complaint, including lot number, your ID and the seller's ID, the method and amount of your payment, details concerning the merchandise, and steps you have taken to try and resolve the issue to cxsupport@cs.ubid.com. The Consumer Exchange Customer Care Department will send a uBid Claim Form to you to complete shortly thereafter.

Once the complaint has been submitted, the seller will receive an email notifying him or her of your complaint and an explanation of how to proceed.

Again, we encourage you to try to resolve the issue with the seller. If that fails, return to your complaint form to document additional events or conversations with the seller that have occurred since your complaint was first submitted.

When you are satisfied that your form includes all relevant information, print it out and mail it to our claims administrator along with copies of all supporting documents, such as email communications with the seller, proof of payment, photographs of the item, etc. Always save copies of receipts and correspondence. Your claim must be postmarked within 60 days after the close of the disputed auction.

Once you've filed your claim, the claims administrator will investigate the auction to determine whether fraud has occurred. The administrator will contact you with their decision within 45 days after receipt of your claim and all relevant documents. If you are involved in a claim, uBid may share certain transactional information and personal information with our outside claims administrator in order to help facilitate the investigation and resolution of the claim. They may only use this information only to process claims and may not use this information for any other purpose.
Q&A's

How much does the program cost?
It is free to be a part of the program. However, if a claim is approved, $25 will be deducted from any proceeds.

Is there a deduction?
$25 per claim will be deducted from any proceeds. For example, if you file a claim for $75 and it is approved, you will receive $50 ($75 less the $25 deductible).

What items are covered?
Transactions in which the winning bidder sends money to the seller and does not receive the item, or in which the item received is materially different than the item described and ordered may be covered by the Buyer Protection Program. Protection is available to winning bidders only.

The auctioned item must be in accordance with the rules outlined in our User Agreement. The purchase price of the item must be greater than $25 and less than $10,000. The approved administrator deducts $25 before reimbursing your claim.

Items damaged in shipment are not covered. Please contact your shipping carrier for information about its reimbursement policy.

What items are excluded?
There are some things that you may not list or sell under any circumstances. These include:

Any item that is illegal to sell under any applicable law, statute, ordinance or regulation

Any item that infringes or violates anyone's rights

Items that you do not have the legal right to sell, including any items that do not exist at the time of the auction

Copyright-infringing items

Stolen goods

Live animals

Food, other than packaged food meeting all applicable federal, state, and local standards for sale to consumers by commercial merchants

Alcoholic Products

Tobacco Products

Firearms (with the exception of antique firearms made before 1898 or replicas)

Ammunition

Switchblades and knives that can be opened with one hand (with blades over 2 inches)

Bodies, Body Parts or Bodily Fluids

Used Underwear

Gambling items (lottery tickets, sweepstakes, pyramid schemes, grab bags, raffles, etc.)

Any item which, in uBid's sole discretion, is inflammatory, offensive, unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, racially or ethnically objectionable, or otherwise inconsistent with the spirit of uBid Auctions

Any item on uBid's list of prohibited items
How much coverage do I have per auction?
$25 will be deducted from any proceeds paid to you on your claim. The Buyer Protection Program covers only the final bid price (subject to the minimum and maximum amounts set forth above); other fees and expenses, such as shipping, are not covered.

How many claims can I file?
There is a limit of one claim per month, and no more than four claims in any year.

Part of Ubid's Buyer Protection Program states the following:

To be in good standing, the registered buyer and seller must not have a Feedback Rating at the time of the transaction of less than 4. A buyer who has not yet received a Feedback Rating shall be considered to be in good standing, but a seller who has not yet received a Feedback Rating will not be considered to be in good standing.

So it looks like the protection doesn't apply since this guy has 0 feedback. I'm sure Paypal or your credit card issuer will take care of you if you pay by credit card, at least that's what I'm counting on
