I also have a Pioneer 105 and have burned 12 full discs so far and have had no problems at all. Discs play fine all the way till the end of the movie on 3 different dvd players. Cyberhome, Hitachi, and Samsung. I dont think i am either nuts or deluded. This media works great for me. Will try burning with pio 104 and 106 when I get a chance.

Well well, last night i had my first bad disc (out of 20 so far). Burned fine and played fine with the exception of 3 hangs .. where i had to actually press forward on the remote for the flick to continue.

Now on my DVD-ROM, it hung from the start completely and couldn't hit forward with WinDvd Plat.

R.I.P 4x single media.. i will be missed

From all the reviews/reports i've read, it seems there is more 4x media that is compatible with the pioneer than with the nec.

I sent my nec1300a back and I ordered a pioneer DVR-106. It'll be interesting to see how these burn on that drive. I'm 99% sure the media was at fault, but I wanted the pioneer anyway.

By all reports this media works fine on the pioneer 106 so I'm not sure the media is at fault.

Yes, but there were several people with the 1300a claiming they weren't having problems. Whatever, doesn't matter now.

so are people finally seeing the trend? All people with pioneers say the media works fine. So its a great deal for pioneer owners, i think i am going to buy another 50.

Sounds good for everyone with the Pioneer a06/106 burners.. I will update the title that 106 has no problems..

I've only had 1 coaster out of 25 with my 1300a so far.. so Nec has some good units afterall.

Maybe the people with nec 1300a that are having problems is using the wrong firmware. The reason I brought the 1300a is because of the price and the hack firmwares. Can the pinoneer 106 write those double sided 9.4 gig dvd-r?

That's what i said too.. the firmware i have on mine has worked fine so far..
re: 9.4GB DVD media.. any burner can burn those.. those are simply (2) 4.3GB medias into one 9.4GB.. each side burns independently and one at a time..

I think most 9.4GB burns @ 2x.. unless there's new ones now that can handle 4x

Not in my case, I was using exactly the same firmware that ICR5 did.

dquan97,

Have you tested many of these DVD-Rs with your Optorite burner? Are you using Optorite burner model number DD0203? Have you had any problems with video skipping on regular DVD players with the burned discs?

Thanks!

I have a noob DVD-R media question here .. on these generic "silver" top media, is it the same silver top on the cheap generic blank CD-R's? The ones where you have to be careful cause they scratch the foil layer off easily? Or is the top part protected on these somehow?

Thanks

Okay, so people who are having issues with these disc's, have you contacted them, and they made good? I don't see any recent complaints on resellerrating, so I am guessing they exchanged them out?

The page selling them specifically does not list the NEC 1300a as compatible so you cant fault the site for people buying em. They do list the pioneer as well as others that support it at 4x.

Received my 50-pack today.

Using an NEC 1300a drive with the 1.07v4 B version firmware.

Two discs so far, both 4.33GB, burned perfectly at 4x using RecordNow Max. No read errors on either through DVDInfo.

Perhaps I'm just lucky, but these seem like great media!

I have burned about 20 of these with my Optorite DD0203 drive (firmware 2.16). No coasters, they play fine, and I even did a verify of the data with DVDInfo on 3 of the discs, with no bad results. Some of the burns have almost been the full 4.3GB too (shy by maybe 100MB), so it doesn't seem like it fails near the end, like some people have said. Just tossing my experience in here with the rest.

edit: Forgot to mention it only seems to want to burn at 2x in Nero tho.
