Ug, I HATE XVID!!!
Has anyone had any luck with this codec at all? EVERY SINGLE VERSION of XVID that I have tried to use has had one of the following problems:
1. The video display is nothing but green blobs
2. The codec causes media player (or any other player I have tried) to crash CONSTANTLY
I downloaded some XVID encoded movies recently, and tried plaing them. I downloaded and installed XVID, double clicked the movie, media player loads up, and bam... I get a message saying that media player has caused an error and needs to be restarted. This happens 5 times in a row, on the 6th time the movie actually started to play...
But, then I minimized the window, and media player crashed again. I have never had media player crash while playing ANY non XVID movies such as DIVX, mpeg1+2, indeo, or anything else.
Also, since IE previews videos in the preview plane, whenever I click on an XVID movie in IE, i get an error saying that IE has crashed (memory can't be 'read' or something).
This has happened WITH EVERY VERSION OF XVID I HAVE EVER USED, and on ALL 6 PCS I have. I have tried it on win98, ME, 2k, and XP, with the same problems happening on every system.
Does anyone know of a STABLE version of XVID that wont crash my machine every time I try to watch a movie?
Also, are there any usefull sites about this damn codec? xvid.org apparently has something against posting binaries, so all you can get from them is source code...
